I checked Sunshine by searching the Web for "sunshine digital". No
hits. I then searched on the 800 number and got Web site hits with
that number and similar name
(
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/sunshinedigitaldeals/digital-cameras-minolta.html ). The store is in Myrtle Beach, Florida. It is a Web site I visited a few years ago, and has not changed greatly, so I know (1) they exist in business, (2) they've been in business awhile, (3) they provide lab services, so they're a typical cut-rate camera dealer. I called and all of their lines were busy, so I placed an order on the Web (I want 1 of the 30 cameras).
I just called again and spoke with Moe. He says the new shipment
has a rechargeable battery, firmware upgrade and the higher price
now shown on the Web. I asked if he meant a special manufacturer's
battery and he said "yes." (We on the forum know more about this
camera than most sales people. He may not know what he's saying.)
The $698 is for the older USA camera, AAs, old firmware. He said
the older camera is in stock at their retail store. I went ahead
with the purchase. (I don't want a proprietary battery ala Sony. I
want a better charger than comes with the camera, and I'm confident
about uploading the new firmware). Moe said the camera will ship
next week, he will e-mail me with a tracking number when it does,
shipping is by FedEx ground only. I received such a package from
Tennessee last week in 24 hrs. I'll see how it goes.
If the deal falls through, I'll order from B&H or Adorama next week.
Yes, it's scary dealing with folks you don't know, but I've bought
at cur-rate camera shops in person and that's often equally scary.
(My daughter and I bought a Canon in NYC a few years ago, asked
about warrantee, yet when we opened the box outside, there was none
in the box--took it back and bought elsewhere.)
Life is short--pray hard.
Ok let us know how you fared out.
