As like most potential buyers and some existing owners of the CP5000, I must confess to be deeply disappointed by its average to poor performance obtained in Phil's Review of the camera. (Image Quality)

All I can say, Is THANK you Phil for your long awaited and impartial review of the camera, even if it went against my decision to purchase the camera after the review was posted.

It is a shame, because it had great potential judging from the feedback and postings on this site, to be an excellent if not outstanding camera.

Unfortunately, the bottom line for me is "Image Quality", which it just did not deliver, no matter how much I liked the look or feel of the camera.

Again, Phil, Thanks for the "tell it as it is" Review, even if it resulted in a "pass" on the 5000 for now.

Daryl -

You have spent so much time debating and waiting on this camera.....You've seen all of the posts with some amazing pictures that people have taken with the CP5000 and JUST because Phil gives it an 8, this camera has dissapointing image quality? To each his own is all I have to say to that.

I have printed some absolutely beautiful 8x10 pics from my CP5000 and my local camera stores have been amazed at the quality and sharpness.

I do respect Phils review, and I think it is very helpful for people who are shopping for a camera and is a good guide for those that already own the camera. But it isn't then end all be all decision maker. You need to use your own jusdgement. Phil isn't writing the check for you nor is he laying down his credit card.

Enjoy whatever you get.

Teski,

Thanks for the comment

Unfortunately its not about Phil writing a cheque or credit card.

I have been following and waiting for the CP5000 ever since it was announced on the 18th of September, following the discussions on both web sites and listening to both positive and negitive postings by owners like yourself who own the camera.

I have posted user surveys on both sites with positive feedback by yourself and others to how good the camera is which I am grateful. I needed to Know if owners were happy with the camera and the results were split 50/50
which was not conclusive.

I am pleased that you are happy with your 5000, but the negative faults Phil

discovered with the camera, I already suspected such as loss of fine detail, average lens quality, chromatic aberrations and Image noise.

I have suffered by similar problems with an Olympus 4040 and Dimage7 and prefer against the same in a Nikon costing £1000

Money is not a problem, If I could guarantee the Image Quality that I am looking for, I would gladly buy it tomorrow.

The only way I could be sure, is to buy the camera, but by doing so, will be unable to change it if it does not perform as I expect it to and be stuck with yet another camera with problems, NO "30 day return or exchange in the UK", hence My User survey post.

I have owned digital cameras since the first Casio VGA digital camera was launched, and kept up with the latest camera/model on a yearly basis as the 1MP, 2MP, 3MP, 4MP cameras came along.

Maybe, I expect too much for an image from a high end digital camera now?

What I once found was acceptable in quality, I now see imperfections, as Digital Camera Images evolve, so does my expectations I Guess

I made a mistake in purchasing the Dimage7 based on user comments on forums before the Review was published and found many problems with the camera, and because of the "No returns policy in the Uk, I ended up selling it for a great loss and cannot afford to do so again.

I value your replies and comments on my postings/threads, and was 99.9pc sure on buying the camera pending a good review from Phil.

As I said, I am disappointed with the outcome of Phils review, I had hoped that the Image Quality would have been better as I listed above.

I have not completely given up on the camera, as yet and would be grateful if you could e-mail me one of your photos so that I could have a look at the quality of the image.

Regards

Daryl

Daryl is not a troll....He has had honest questions, and if you look at his history, he posts mostly in Nikon....He hasn't flamed anyone, and is just disappointed in Phil's review.

Sounds like you're more disappointed in Phil's review than in the camera? Why not take more pics and read less reviews?

IMHO,

Sorry all, I am no Troll, Just bitterly disappointed in the review, and wanted to vent off some steam, Sorry!!!

I have no postings in any other Forum, Have not yet got a camera, as was waiting to buy the CP5000 pending Phils Review, on hold at the moment.

I do really like this camera, Just wish Image quality would be better for the reasons that I have given.

Please note, Teski has been a Great help to me with previous postings, he has the 5000 and is very happy with it., just trying his best to convince me to buy it.

Why disappointed in the review. The review was impartial and just.
You should be disappointed in Nikon, its just an average product
when it was touted to be the second coming of digi cameras.

Honesly... that is what I think he meant. I don't think he was stating the it got an unfair review.

I agree with you Daryl.
This is perhaps a wonderful camera but with an average lens which
I did not expect from one of the best lensmakers in the world.
I am very disappointed too

I do own a coolpix 5k, and shot many pix indoor and out. Phil's review is very good in detail, maybe the best in digital cameras reviews I have seen. the faults Phil points out on coolpix 5k is only facts, my coolpix must have them too. I like how coolpix 5k works, and pic quality is good. meter the same way as F5 and F100, full manual control is better than a Hassy polariod back and the hot shoe works with SB flashes. At this point, after read cp5k review, G2 review and others, I am not regret about having a cp5k. I just hope I can use my coolpix with my 35mm system and 120 as often as possible. I picked cp5k as a Nikon package, no only a digital camera. I picked cp5k based on my present equipments preferences, shooting needs and convineinces. And that is why I am in this forum. If Nikon comes out a coopix 5005 soon, that will upset me alot.

I think you all need to learn how to use it as tool.
The Tool only as good as you can understand and know how to use it.

I've look at all these threads , all they showing is a whole bunch of point and shooter
including a lot of reviewers don't even know what 're they talking about.
Let' show me your pictures , your work.
Look at even from reviewers's picture. they 're all look like the snap shots.
Most will never be printed, most will look on a cheapo uncalibrated monitor.
So stop whining and try to get out of hardware critic!
Learn how to use it for your advantage.
As far as i'm concern, All of these camera are perfect, even the BEST RATED one.

Also do not forget, no matter who reviewing it, most just a matter of personal perspective
some is not quite scienctifically observed.
Any devices , regardless of Brand or model , all having production tolerances.
You can not just test one and come to a conclusion.

You can give the LOWEST RATING camera to the Artistic Pro and he will come up with the
wonderful pic.

Do anybody ever wonder what kind the brush, paint and canvas rating did Micheal Angelo was used.

or Ansel Adams with his 100 lbs camera (bottom rate by any standards as far as transportability)

or Cartier-Besson with his 50 mm lens ONLY camera. Are these artists read the review before they
can go get their tool?
Please do the impossible, THINK.

I agreed. cpix 5k is a good tool for Nikon 35mm user, the same matrix metering, work with SB flashes. the manual control are much better than using a hassy polariod back. I picked it because my present system preferences and shooting needs and I like it. BTW, Ansel Adams often recommand the biggist camera you can carry, and Cartier-Besson used a Leica. I don't think they are in the same race as digital camera. But great photographs are what we shooting for

Please do the impossible - think - what a greatConsumer Digital Camera of the year

The Kodak 760 the Pro SLR - tell you what - I've seen some prize winners from instamtics - and my guess is some prize winners will come out of all thse cameras - because, in the end - it is the eye and the mind and the heart of the potographer who use the tools with all their weaknesses to produce imortal shots.

Ansel only guessed at focal lengths - wo many different opinions - but, hey - so much fun. A firnd bought a Sony 707 and i liked it - if I owned two I don't know whioch one I'd use. They are different animals.

As far as picture qulaity - mixed results - some good, some bad - just like film and scanning.

If these is an absolute answer here - I haven't yet to see it - but the quote from the last post is a show stopper.

I agree completely with that assessment Peter. This camera is perfectly capable of inducing "gaping jaw syndrome" at the quality of its shots, if only the photographer is willing to learn how to do it. All this post review remorse is really getting tired.

Thanks

I also agree,

I've read enough of this 5k bashing, the challenge of photography as far as I knew was being able to pull the best possible pictures out of any photographic tool. When you consider that the 5k with all its "deficiences" is still in the top 3 of 5mp DC's today, what the heck is the problem? I got into photography to learn to take good pictures and I'll try it with any camera in hand, I suggest all these people caught up in 5k bashing need to gain focus, and beef up their skills.
