First off, I hate the thought of using a grip with my XT since the whole point of buying the XT over the 20D was because I prefer a smaller, lighter camera.

That said... I took a bunch of vertical / portrait oriented shots this weekend, and realized that the grip may have helped me.

In reading about Opteka vs. Canon grips I see comments about the shutter button being different. Can anyone that has used both grips comment on this, or any other differences that may be worth mentioning?

Thanks...

The only comments I've heard about the vertical shutter buttons between the two are that the Opteka vertical shutter button feels a little 'mushier' than the Canon's.

I find it's different feeling, but I wouldn't call it mushy. I've had no problems with it what-so-ever, and have found the quality to be superb with the Opteka.

It's definitely worth the money savings over the Canon grip.

I own one Opteka and one Canon. The shutter button feels a little different but it's hard to put my finger on it. But, other than that, the two battery holders work identically. If I buy another for whatever reason, it will be an Opteka. If the price were only $10 different, it would STILL be an Opteka. There isn't enough difference to matter at least to me.

Having used both, the opteka is well worth it for the price difference. The feel of the shutter button is a bit different, but i've had no problems with my opteka. I dont use it everyday like a lot of people, but whenever I know Im going to be using the camera a lot in a day (or shooting a lot vertically) I throw it on, it does what its supposed to do just fine for the price.

My only complaint with the Opteka grip is that the on/off slider does not click, just slides, otherwise everything is terrific.

I assure you that unless you have very small hands, once with grip, always with grip!! (Even any button does not work!)

I had one, and it was on my camera all the time. It helped greatly with portrait-orientation shots.

I haven't compared it against the Canon version, but I never felt the need to try the Canon because the Opteka was so good.
