It is still flashing, but the AF-Asssist illuminator is not working anymore in dim light, and the LED ready-light doesn't light up too, though it still emits a sound. There was no mishandling on my part, what could have caused it to malfunction? Last time I remember using the AF-assist and working well was halloween. Anyway, it's still under warranty, i'm returning it back to the dealer. But anybody who could have experienced this??

On my SB-800's, when batteries are becoming drained, first things to stop working are the AF-Asssist illuminator and the LED ready-light. Try fresh batteries...I'll bet that solves your problem.
