Hi,

Is there a way to connect my Metz 60CT4 or 45CT4 flash with x-sync cable to the Olympus E-20? Or must I buy the FL-40 flash?

I'm considering buying an E-20 because it looks a good replacement for my SRL cameras, and if I can use my flashes that would be great don't you think so?
Thank you,

I use the Metz 60CT4 w/my E-10 constantly - as a matter of fact I slave a 2nd 60CT4 for additional lighting.

I already owned the Metz flashes when I purchased my E-10. I use the Metz flashes for location lighting for portraits, as well as for wedding work. I have one PC cord that plugs directly from the PC Synch connector on the camera to the flash, and in another scenario I use my Quantum Radio Slave 4i to trigger the flash, especially for location portriats where I place the flash away the camera.

There is no SCA module for the E-10 as such that I am aware of. However, I just purchased a module from eBay for the Olympus OM series that I am going to experiment with over this coming week and see what shapes out.

I am very pleased with the results of the Metz with the E-10.

Hi,

I use an extremely old Metz 60CT-1 on my E10 with no problems. I just spent a few quid on it having it serviced. Money well spent. I use the short Stroboframe with it and the adaptor has just arrived so that the flash head is always above the lens.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Richard

Hello Mustbe,

I have the Oly FL-40 and the Metz 45CL-4.
The Metz can be used with the x-contact without any problems.
Just use Auto mode on the Metz and Manual mode on the E-10/20.
Works perfectly ...

I also have bought the Metz sca3202 TTL adapter for the E-10/20 (and other Oly cameras) and TTL functions "rather" well with the E-10/20.

Not 100% perfect results so far, but I'm experimenting to obtain the best TTL results.
But in Auto mode, the E-10/20 and the Metz 45CL-4 do a great job.

X-contact? Seeing how I'm looking for a flash for my new E-10, what's the most cost effective?

Hello dgrogers,

The E-10 has a hotshoe on top and an "x" xontact on the left side.
The cable of most flashes (certainly the Metz 45CL-4) fitts in the x contact.
I bought the Metz 45CL-4 secondhand (so cheap ;-) and it works great.

On BD, there's a "coalmining" album (since yesterday) and all indoor shots were made using the E-10 (manual mode) and the Metz 45CL-4 (auto mode).
I think it's a "cost effective" way and delivers great results.
Just look at the album ... ;-)))

Kind regards,
Jaja

Thanks for all the answers and links.
Now I'm sure.
I want to use the E20 and metz flashes for weddings.

Maybe this is a good shop

the E20P for 1750 euro, rather cheap isn't?

Thanks again,

Thanks for the info, but the flash does seem a little strong in some areas and weak in other of the same shot. Perhaps a difuser would have helped?

Also, can you use the camera's flash as a fill flash when using the metz?

Thanks again

Metz 60CT4 and 45CT4 both support System 300 and therefore can be used with the SCA3202 Adapter AND and SCA3000C converter cable. I'm still waiting for my 54MZ-3 and SCA3202 to come in but this is the info I found while investigating. Many in this forum are using the flashes and the adpaters listed. Apparently you don't get absolutely true TTL, but good enough. For more info, you can look at the Metz site http://www.metz.de and click on Mecablitz after the welcome screen.

Hello dgrogers,

Good obeservation of you ...
Normally, I always use a diffuser, but the 45-CL-4's is broken.
I have to order a new one ...

And yes, you can use the Oly camera flash, but the 45CL-4 has a main flash and a fill-in flash.

I was told by Metz that I would have to send my CT-3 in to have an "upgrade" done so that it would work with the sca3202 and sca300c for TTL.

I believe that's correct for the CT-3. However, the 60CT4 and 45CT4 are current flashes. This from the Metz site:

The Metz mecablitz 60 CT-4 is fully integrated in the SCA 300 adapter system or SCA 3000 with connection cable SCA 3000 C and compatible with all leading camera brands. This enables a variety of flash special functions.

Same goes for the 45CT4.
