New E1 prices seem to be rising on eBay!

I am considering to order an E-1 from Cameta in NY, but recently I notice that the final bids on brand new E-1's are on the rise. A few weeks ago I read here that people could get the E-1 from Cameta at $450 and now the latest transaction on E-1 is as high as $550.

I thought the E-1 replacement is coming out soon. It's hard to believe the 3 years old E-1 is still gaining popularity and prices are increasing. Maybe supply is becoming more limited?

Anybody with experience ordering from Cameta by phone? What is the best strategy? Would this approach be cheaper in comparison to bidding on ebay? I am very interested to get an E-1 with the battery holder. Thanks in advance for your inputs.

I used Cameta for my purchases of E-500 and an E-1 when E-1 dropped to $439. I was very pleased with Cameta's prompt and courteous service..

I used the " Buy it Now" on E-Bay for both cameras, but I did speak with a Cameta salesperson on the phone the following day and I must say Cameta service was great. If you contact them on the phone I dont think you will get any sales pressure to purchase more than what you need.

Price of E-1 's have gone up a bit but my guess is thats due to the supply running out soon. I havent used my E-1 I simply purchased it as a collectors piece so mine is still brand new in the box but it is a very nice camera. As for the replacement to the E-1 I dont think its going to happen until the fall of 2007, I think we will just see and advanced mockup in the spring, and Oly will say "coming soon" once again...

Also $550 for a new E-1 still is a good deal, if you think back a few years the E-1's sold for $2,000 for the body only...

Good luck , and good shooting,

Nick,

It's holiday season, thus more activity on eBay which explains for higher priceson eBay.

Amalia,

May I ask how much you pay for your E-1 at Cameta? Thanks.

Ken

George,

Do you think the price will come back down after the holidays? I am in no rush to get the E-1 now, or next year. I just want to make sure I get it before it runs out.

Anybody knows other sources which sell brand new E-1's at similar prices? I don't live in the US so the warranty doesn't mean much to me.

Wow, the price is really shooting up the roof, considering it was only selling at $450 a few weeks ago. Did you phone in and order or bid on ebay?

Ken

supply´s running low, demand´s rising... it´s still the flagship despite it´s 5.5 mpix.

Ken,

I'm in the exact same situation as you are. made up my mind to get the E-1 but the price is rising. i wouldnt be able to buy it before december, dont know what would be the price then?

i'm not in the US too. and very frustrated abt the situation...

cameta ships to my country for $70, but the customs here might charge a extra duty as cameta does not label it as gift. in total, the price may become too high..

any information regarding this fact would be helpful for me as well...

If there are still sufficient supplies of E-1 after the holidays, I would think the price will drop on eBay.

Now if there are buyers bidding against each, it will again drive up the price.

If you don't need the E-1 right now, I'd suggest you wait until you get a good auction from Cameta.

Hi

I won an auction today $511 + $12 S&H from Olympus Auction.

Body only.

I don't think the prices are rising because of the christmas season, but rather because demand goes up and supply diminishes, especially as many folks waiting for the E-3 got an E-1 at least for interim.

It is a kind of a gamble. You may wait, but if you wait too long, you might not get one anymore.

Nobody here who knows the stock situation at Cameta???

( Both just started, so don't expect too much)

It's going to be a gamble for all of us who wants the E-1. Observing the brand new ebay price going up from $450 to $550 in a few weeks time, it's hard to take the plunge psychologically. But then what happens if the inventory gets exhausted by the end of the year? The price will continue to shoot up the roof. That's a dilemma that some of us have to deal with.

On the other hand, assuming the E-3 announcement happens in Feb, when do you think the new E-3's will actually hit the stores? Early in the summer, or even after that? Wearing the Olympus hat, I just cannot imagine they could put off production of their "pro" model for such a long time. There are always customers who want the buid, splash proof, ergonomics and most importantly the image quality of the E-1. The other E cameras are great, but they are not THE cameras that have given us the pride, confidence and reliability like the E-1's.

My guess is the E-1 supply will continue, perhaps in limited quantity, until the E-3 appears in the market. What's your take?
