Who cares what people say? And which people are saying this? Go out and take some photos, and you will discover how good your D70s is. From the sounds of your post, the D70s is a much better camera than you need at the moment anyway. Otherwise you wouldn't be starting such a cra* y post.

Thanks Kurt for the kind words..But someone compared features with the EOS 400 D and they did upset me :( . I was told by them that all pros use only canon and not Nikon...aarrgh...

There are plenty of pros shooting Nikon. The person you talked to knows nothing. I was out shooting with a pro yesterday and he was in awah of what I was able to do with the SB800. He was tempted to switch from Canon for this alone. The cameras and lenses are very close. The Nikon flash system is the best.

Agree with all that has been said so far.

I nearly went Canon but the 350D was too tiny and toy like for me. The D70/70s is far more enjoyable to use and that is what sold it to me. There are tons and tons of pros using Nikon too. Have a look at the finalists of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year and you will see just how many are Nikon. If Canon was better then don't you think they would all have switched by now. The runner up in the Other Animals Behaviour section is a pro friend of mine and he has had loads of stuff published from his D70. It made me realise what could be done with it.

Go out and shoot and you will soon love Nikon. Alternatively, get a toy 350/400D and see how silly they look with a big lens on the front.

Cheers

It's a camera man! 99% of the success comes from the person releasing the shutter. Either camera is good. Don't was space with silly posts, read a book.

And neither do megapixels. Both 400d and d70 are good and capable camera. D70 does kick the 400d on ergonomics.

It's now upto you to start ignorning the megapixel crowd and the feature counters and to start shooting and having fun.

Don't wait for the Nikon D-whatever, have fun now!

I understand that Himm, that even with a mobile phone, one can shoot a creative shot, but I'm human, trying hard & would like to know the value of a single dollar I have spent.Sorry if my query was too stupid, but I promise it was out of my heart and not just a question to ask.

When you buy a camera you are buying into a commitment to use specific type lenses (and flashes). As you buy lenses for this camera, you will be able to use them on your next camera.

You only made a mistake if the lens you need is ony available for the other camera brand. Nikon cameras (except for the upcoming D40) can use older lenses that often are pro quality for very little money. Features mean almost nothing if you don't have the lens you need.

While I'm on the subject remember these lenses...

50mm f1.8
18-55DX
55-200DX
85 f1.8
28-200G (walkaround)
used 80-200 f2.8.

Theses lenses are relatively cheap (from cheap to more expensive.)

These lenses are the cheapest way to get good pictures. Of course, there are lenses that are more expensive with even more features, and people here can help you find the ones that might fit your needs.

Try to find the 1st thee lenses on the list for other brands of cameras. That's the beginner set of lenses. I magine you can, but then when you try to find the next three on the list, you might not be able to without using a lot of money. That's is one of the "feature" that make Nikon a good brand to own.

This is simply a lie !

I had to choose, after months of thinkings, between d50 or Canon 350 / 400 (both enry level for DSLR).

Canon is great, but ALL, and I mean ALL reviews, posts, examples, tests clearly shows that Nikon D series has better color quality, optimization, better lens, and generally - better camera, although almost the same.

If someone told you you made a mistake - I think its because he is either frustrated from his sex life of Canon. They are almost the same.

Be happy with your choice, I;m sure - sleep well at night!

P.S: Small suggestion - borrow a simple but perfect lens from a friend, for example Nikon 50mm f1.8 - it costs 100USD. You will notice that photos are much better then Canon XXX L series that costs over 1000 USD....

have gone for Canon....
...and, if you bought the Canon, there would now be people telling you that you should have gone for Nikon.

For a photographer with enough experience to know certain features, that he requires in a camera, he would find reasons to prefer one maker over the other. The quality and features of Canon and Nikon are so close, that for a novice, it makes no difference which brand he buys. For the novice it is probably best to buy the camera that feels more comfortable to hold. By the way (for me anyway), that would be Nikon.

There is no-one, excuse me, I mean NO-ONE, that could ever look at a photograph and have any idea whether it was taken with a Canon or Nikon.

The people who make the comments that have been made to you, are those who are themselves very insecure with their choice of camera, and want to be reassured that somehow their camera is better than everyone else's. Their cameras are not better than yours, and your camera is not better than theirs. Heck, they are just cameras. Forget all this nonsense about trying to compare and contrast insignificant differences in cameras. Go out with your camera and have some fun. You will be enjoying your camera, while those "people" are obsessing over equipment.

Well, I'll tell you, I was LMAO at the comment that only pros use Canon. I guess Nikon makes all those $1,500 - $9,000 lenses for amateurs!

You friend will probably tell you, "Well, I meant all professional sports photographers use Canon." Dave Black, one of the best sports photographers in the world, uses Nikon, and he particularly likes it for the flash system.

Oh, and he has good online workshops for you to learn from. Check out his Workshop at the Ranch section.

Now, while you're learning to use your new camera, try looking at some of these pictures that David Chin has assembled - all taken with the D70 or D70s, by the way.

mentally down for a camera

how do you deal with the other of life's crisis? :))

if you would've purchased the Canon you'd have wished the Nikon

it's called buyer's remorse http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buyer 's_remorse

aka the grass is greener on your neighbour's side always

you'll get over it when you start seeing the pix roll off the d70s

enjoy life and have a cerveza and relax

Suggestion

Point the person that made you feel this way at the photos of any of the better photographers on this forum. Ask them to match them with there Cannon.

Hear are a few of mine to get you started:

And if you really want to have fun with him, have him try to match these point and shoot camera images I took:

The photographer is the largest variable, lenses are a long second behind the photographer. The body is mostly a box with a sensor.

Do give it back to this silly person. I hope it’s a nice day in your area. You could use a long walk.

First, I agree with the posts here -- you didn't make a mistake going with NIkon.

Here are some of my personal thoughts on the whole matter...

This Nikon vs Canon thing really bothers me, and it seems there is a lot more trash talk from the Canon side to Nikon. I don't understand this completely. On the few occasions when I"ll bring my D70 or D200 to work, I get all the Canon people saying "stuff". I try to keep quiet, because I could really go off.

Canon has done a better job it seems, to get people to be brainwashed that their cameras are "the best". See, back in the 60's and 70's Nikon was #1 and for me at least, owning Nikon was quite an achievement. I think it's partly because Canon had some slick features and somehow got the camera dealers on board to push Canon.

In the "old days", Nikon never would have manufactured the cheap lenses and other equipment we're seeing today. They are being forced to do this to keep market share and in a way, it's a shame. Still,l have you really looked at or held Canon cameras and lenses? To me, there's no comparison in the finished products -- Nikon is way ahead as far as ergonomics and overall design and finishing of their products. My friend at work has a Canon 100-400L, 70-200L and 24-70L lens. He has to deal with stupid push-pull zooming on the 100-400.

Nikon is still conservative in many ways and I'm glad for this. They are not too quick to adopt fads in the marketplace, like anti-dust shaking devices. This is actually a good thing, IMO. Instead, they go along with new advancements and provide some of the best engineering and products in the marketplace.
