Is S3 a consumer or prosumer camera?

S3 has many important attributes as a useful camera. However, in my opinion, it has not been defintively classifed as a consumer or prosumer camera.
 
People would say that since it lacks a hotshoe (and RAW, but then that's all but gone except for DSLR) it's not a prosumer.

But really, does it mattre? If it has the specs you want, then it's good enough.

You see, I am going to buy it for somebody, who requested for a prosumer camera, preferably canon. I have narrowed it to s3. My post, hopefully would help me affirmed my idea of the S3 as a prosumer camera.

You can argue that Canon doesn't make one. If they do, it's either the S3IS or the G7. The G7 has the hotshoe and ISO wheel the S3 lacks, but the S3 has a number of features the G7 lacks (T/S LCD, zoom in movie mode, faster lens, real grip, etc.).

I think that word gets used too much by those trying to add 'weight' or value or just wanting to look bigger for some reason.

Typically a camera that does much of what a DSLR would do except changing lenses could be called 'Prosumer'. . .

Personally I don't care for the title 'Prosumer'. . .

Will work for food.

Then I think you need to find out what that person meant by a prosumer. Better still, find out what features they need/want, and get a camera that matches.

Prosumer is a professional consumer designation which belongs to a camera which has most of the features of a dslr and few of the drawbacks. In otherwords, a mini slr without the weight. The S2/s3 fits the bill.
