Does anybody have any idea when Canon is going to launch a successor to the G2?

The general consensus has been that if they do it this year, it
will be in the Aug/Sept time frame.

G1 - Sept '00
G2 - Aug '01

More interesting is what changes they will make...

Like a bouncing ball I'll come bouncing back to you-a-hoo .......

:)

Actually Canon will be changing their numbering system to conform with the confusion generated by MP ratings. Too many people are jumping to the conclusion that the G2 is a 2MP camera. So the next G series planned is a G6. This camera will also have a 10x zoom, come with a "lensmate" type cover and will come standard with a 128mb Compact Flash. The internal flash will be be modified with 3 small flashes that surround the lens for improved macro shots without an external "ring" flash, but the hot shoe will remain for true flash adaptability. The LCD will be approximately 25 % larger. Battery life will be improved about 50% over the current system. Wireless printing will be improved with more options set up for auto interfacing with the Canon 820 dye sub printer (that has built-in CD burner) . Tentative release date is August 2002. Thought you would want to know.

Yeah Right! Care to share the source of this info?
So does that mean the Eos 1D will be renamed as well? Hardly think so.

Sounds great--too bad that by then I'll be craving an SLR-style digicam (well, I already do). Let's hope alongside the Gwhatever, we get a 6MP+ D2.

Take care,
Paul

Hey, lighten up guys. Just having some fun with the everpresent speculation on the next release from on high. You do know that if you read it on the internet it's true!! Right??

Now that was actually kind of funny. Some people really need to take things with a grain of salt. Remember, you're reading this on an Internet forum ;)

..and it will have a suggested retail price of $599.00!!! to stay ahead of the competition!!

That was very funny.
Just enough great sounding ideas to make it nearly believable...

Just about had me calling to cancel my G2 :)
