Yesterday I went to Chatsworth house in Derbyshire,England. It is one of the most famous stately homes in the Uk and has extensive gardens set in a valley next to the river Derwent.Thankfully it was sunny all day.

David Davies - Nice set of pics Kev. May I add, that it is the Seat of The Dukes of Devonshire. I love the use of the word "Seat" since I have a vision of some Grandee mooning the populous from the grand entrance. Also seems an anomaly that the Duke of Devonshire has his Seat in Derbyshire and no property in Devon to my knowledge. Wife and friend also visited recently for two days there and said fabulous. Was also subject of a good TV series showing that last couple of Dukes wisely married a couple of very bright, business minded attractive ladies who have really pulled the estate out the doldrums.

Is this still a home? or is it for tourists now?

i love your pictures of it too!

I wish I had seen that documentary David.I have never understood much about all those dukes and lords and how their titles work.

Chris and Deborah-yes the Duke of Devonshire still lives at the house with his family. Some of the rooms are open to the public but the rest are private and closed off.I wish I had of had time to go inside now as they had just decorated the place for Christmas and even though I only caught a glimpse it looked fantastic.

here is the website if your want to know more. Its very good.
