Question and Hello!

Sorry for making a fuss. I've made my point and will shut up now. I like getting along as much as anybody.

Pam: welcome! I'm sure there's a lot of enjoyable conversation ahead.

as a soon owner of the K10d...i just wanted to say "hi" and was
wondering why
Hi and welcome.
these forums are 99.9% male...i'm not complaining! just curious.
Dunno, why do more males play computer games than females? Maybe all the females are out taking pictures rather than chatting on forums.
thanks for all of your help and pictures !! any surfers out there?
markdimo is a big surfer dude/picture taker. He has an excellent gallery on Pbase.
"pancakes are good..." ;)
I like em too, espcially the ones with sugar, syrup and cinnamon on them...;-)

Thought she got her new house several weeks ago and the marriage
was forthcoming. I've been wrong before, and it won't be the last
time.
I can understand the confusion. Most people don't most their
engagement annoucement a week and a half before the event. And I
never did get around to posting the photos.

The wedding was September 25th. Closed on the house October 19th.
Out of state family visit October 20th. Moving last weekend and
this. Phone will be hooked up tomorrow. I shall dedicate the entire
month of December to doing noooothing. Except shopping for all of
the Christmas presents I didn't get a chance to buy in September,
October, or November.

Unfortuantely, in a misguided attempt to ban "gay marriage" couples
in the state of Virginia will no longer have the choice of buying a
house before they officially tie the knot. I won't get going on
that rant though...
So, if two people of any gender mix want to live together they can not buy a house unless they are married. Married like a man to a woman.

What if two sisters decide to buy a house together or two brothers or just two friends? I sure hope you were kidding.

Unfortunately, that is accurate. Welcome to Hateville, USA. If two women, say old friends, wanted to buy a house together, they could not. One could buy the house and let the other live there, but could not have a legal agreement to both own the house. They also could not sign over power of attorney to each other to make medical decission. They could not make any sort of contractual arrangement to be responsible for each other in ways traditionally reserved for a spouse.

This is meant to stop, in theory, people in a same sex or opposite sex relationship from bestoving rights and privileges upon one another without the benefit of marriage.

It is meant to both encourage marriage among those living together and, somehow, discourage homosexual relationships.

That being said, it's a big load of stupid that does nothing except foster hate and discrimination, as well as regulate away personal freedoms that the state has no business laying their zealous little hands on.

The law way passed by referendum two days ago, making it all the sadder as we can't blame it on anything except our own hatred of our fellow citizen and need to clamp down on the personal freedoms of others.

... but I digress.

Pam, Hi and welcome.

This is all in all a really friendly forum but it is, as all forums are, made up of real people. Real people have good and bad days and if someone says something that should maybe not have been said it is forgiven. That does not mean that plain rudeness is tolerated.

Anyway, we look forward to your first photos, take care

Welcome to the forum.

I'm only guessing, but I think these forums are skewed towards males because this is a very technical site. Us guys, who like boys, like their toys. We like talking about our toys, and this is a good place to do it. I think all the women photographers are too busy because, you know, they are ACTUALLY TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS. :)

Ok ok... I admit, there's big huge generalization. But take a look at the threads. What's the proportion of technical threads versus artistic photographic critique?

Welcome Pam! I've been here about a month or so and have enjoyed the forum alot. I hope you do too.

Most of what I know about using my brand-new K100D I learned here.

cyrene

one of the 0.1%

That would have to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

So, opposite sex couples in a de facto marriage could not buy a house together? Government is effectively encouraging/forcing them to get married. A bunch of mates could not get together to invest in property, etc, etc.......

Well I'll be, now I've heard it all!

Steven (volosong) has been very helpful and given me useful advice wrt my lens purchases ..... Though the forum has a lot of males (I didnt bother to find out the gender before seeing this thread!), they are super friendly and nice ..... try posting on a C/N forum :)

Folks on forums and blogs are humans 1st :)

Its a joy to learn from the Pentax forum members. In the last few months I have had a lot of fun on this forum and I might have learnt quite a bit. At least people feel that my photos look a little better these days including my wife who has 100x more artistic sense than I do .....

Welcome to the forum!

I've read and reread Steven's (volosong) post several times. I find it neither lame nor presumptuous. Perhaps your reaction to his post answers your own question to some extent. Females are a mite sensitive, guys are a bit more objective and down to earth. And the simple fact is that guys are more inclined to get excited about the technical aspect of the world than gals. Simple truth. Get over it.

Look, if you are being discriminated against, that is a federal matter. Frankly, I don't beleive you. Although some might want to protect the family, it isn't anyone's business what goes on in your bedroom. The downside of "Gay Marriage" are things like adoption. In MA, where this is legal, the Catholic Church had to shut down their adoption services because they stood in their religous beliefs that a child needs both a mom and a dad. We all need to live together. Tolleration is a two way street.

Rant over.

To presume you are telling the truth, that would mean that noone except single people and married people can own properety. The fact is that people (all sorts) purchase property together for domestic and business purposes. It is perfectly reasonable for 2 people (of any sort) to purchase property for investment or any other type of venture. There are all kinds of partnerships where people --married or not--same sex or not--purchase property for all kinds or reasons. Honestly, sexual orientation is not part of the loan application. If it is, call an attorney because you will soon become a multi-millionaire!

By the way, to the 1st poster up there for the 1st time WELCOME! When I went to photography school, guys outnumbered girls at least 10-1. I have no idea why. If you are a female, great! Frankly though, this is a photography forum so if anyone is straight or gay, male or female, everyone is welcome!

I'll look forward to getting BBQ-ed for my remarks!

Remember our wonderful state slogan?

"Virginia is for lovers"

Ironic, Huh.
Yeah, Virginia is for lovers if they are married to each other and being lovers under the covers, in missonary position, with the lights out and the shades drown, between the hours of 8pm and 10pm and only on Saturdays when the kids are with their grandparents. I think there may be a holy water clause involved somewhere as well.

I exaggerate, but we do still have some pretty wacky laws on the books.

If you are under 16, you can get married, but only if you or your bride is pregnant.

Wow - now I've heard it all - not my area of law but if I lived in VA, I would take this case pro bono in a second. I suspect legal challenges are on the way as we speak...... (Do we really still live in the USA??????? Not to ruffle anyone's feathers or get political - but I couldn't resist responding to this - sorry)
