I use the CP 995 on my microscope to make pictures of micro minerals.

Because of motion problems I have to use the self-timer in connection to manual focus. I can not find out how to do that? The self-timer seems to work only in auto-mode.

Ed, you need to press one more time on the button that takes you into "macro mode". you will see the icon for self timer and if you press it once you will get a 10sec delay or twice a 3sec delay.
This will work in either mode
good luck

Ed,

If it's the same as on the CP990, you have to re-set the manual focus each time, AFTER you've set the self-timer.

Hope this helps.

Don,

I can not work in macro mode but have to use Infinity mode together with the self-timer and that is not possible as far as i know. Is that correct?

Ed,
If your using manual focus then macro & infinity etc. arei irrelevant.

Sorry, shouldn't be in such a hurry, that should be:

If you use manual focus, then you can set whatever focus distance you like(including infinity) in conjunction with the timer.

Ed, you unfortunately are right. The automatic timer works only in autofocus mode. If anyone knows how to make it work in manual mode I'ill be interested in the proceedure as well. You may have better luck turning off the automatic "area focus" mode and let it focus the old fashion way. Or you can get a remote shutter rig and use that to take the shot after manual focus. There are a couple of brackets that allow the attachment of the remote shutter cable. The "rollbar" with the auxillary bracket will allow the use of the remote shutter cable. I think I remember one other that does as well.--Kevin

Kevin, I photograph uneven surfaces (Rocks) and manual focus is then a must.

Turning off the area focus is not a solution. It focus always to the part closest to the lens but sometimes i want to make a puture in a cave of a rock because there is the nicest cristal.
I know a solution is to use a remote control cable but that costs big Euro's
to and I would not need it if i could use the selftimer and manual focus.

Thanks for your rep.

I have no problem using manual focus and timer together on my CP990, I can't think of any reason why they should change it for the 995, but maybe they have. Like I said before, you have to set the focus distance after you've primed the self timer.

Hope this helps.

Nope, cannot use manual focus with timer on 995.

Ed, I did find another solution. You could use the MC-EU1 remote control for the CP-995. It cost about $90.00US at B&H. It doesn't require any other adapter or bracket to work.--Kevin

Kevin,

In that case I'm glad I got the 990 because I use that combination a lot. I would take it up with Nikon if I were you.

Good luck guys,

Miles

Well, I was wrong. You can use manual focus with the timer. Simply set the focus mode until the timer icon appears, then hold down the focus button and turn the adjustment dial and the manual focus distance indicator shows up in the display. Don't know why I missed that but I am glad you got me to thinking Miles. Thanks Miles.

I also have the 990 and the way it's done goes like this: Push the M-Focus button (lower left of LCD) until timer icon appears. Then push and hold down that same button again. While holding it down, rotate the command wheel (top right) until the proper distance appears. Release button and press shutter once for 10 second delay, twice for three. I know it works great for the 990, has one of you995 guys tried it??

Kevin,

Glad you got there in the end! Sorry, maybe I could have been a bit more explicit with my explanation.
