hello STF arteests.

Please have a look at this page and please look at my thumbnail entry "Yellow Daisy"
http://www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/eligible&page=2

I had my title and name scripted on my entry today and someone erased and changed it. Im not concerned about who changed it but i think this scripting looks waaay more professional.
I would volunteer to do the whole page if you all agree.

let me know what you think?

I don't like the fact that the title of my first photo has been changed to include my name, which I'm going to change soon, as my name can be seen after clicking on the picture anyway.

But I like what you did with that script and I was just wondering about it before reading this post. What bothers me though is that it also appears on the right when viewing the picture, which seems kinda....odd....when seen on a bigger scale.

I'm sorry Zipper, was there writing below that stunning picture??? I must have missed it. My eyes were too busy with the picture to notice.

I was wondering how you did that, didn't have a chance to ask my html daughter. I liked it.

What I can't figure out is who is doing all this changing of other people's entries.

I would think the only person who should have the responsibility to do this would be the challenge host, not individual posters.

Also, there are two ineligible photos in the eligible gallery they should be moved to exhibition.

I can understand people getting confused and posting in the wrong gallery but they should be moved asap so that people don't get confused when it's time to vote.

I could hardly recognize the gallery this morning there were so many changes, no great biggy but there goes my shortcut on my dial up modem of just going to the last page LOL.

Dee

No biggie to me either way. Shouldn't john Zwinck be making these
decisions?
Come on. Decisions are ok but if it's to kill the fun of the challenge with things that absolutely don't matter then it's really not OK. First I don't understand the absolute requirement of having to put your name on there and I doesn't make more snese than forcing people to post anonymously.

I put my name in there that can be seen after clicking on the picture, but please, don't touch the titles of my pictures. Titles are not meant to include the photographer's name and should be left that way if that's what people want.

When all the fun of these challenges goes away, the challenges will go away too.--My photo galleries: http://www.pbase.com/davidp

ZipperZ,

I think the scripting looks much more professional. It would make the whole gallery look more polished.

Dee, are you referring to the dates on the pictures? Sometimes pbase puts a default date on the images (maybe from exif data?). I'm wondering if date/time hasn't been set on the camera then the date could be off. Some of my pictures I've uploaded have default dates on them months before I even had my camera. Just something to verify with the owners of the photos.

This has never happened to me.

The museum picture is really beautiful, but frankly, as someone else pointed out, I doubt that it really could have been taken so quickly after the challenge started.

May be right, but rather than make any judgments, the photographer should be consulted. He did say in his post that he goes to this museum every Friday night, didn't he? He may have taken it without knowledge of the theme, but after the them was announced. It would then qualify I would think.

But, I think its ok to verify, but not to remove.

This challenge has started with pretty strict rules in my opinion. Strict for something that is supposed to be fun. But there is not structure, no supervision or maintenance done by the host. We can directly compare it to the very well organzed previous challenge (great job debadguy).

Now we have to strict and unecessary rules (still don't know the advantages of those) but the challenge is getting out of hand. People worry about pictures shuffling, pictures are renamed by we-don't-know-who, we don't know when the challenge ends. It looks like it's getting out of hand to me.

It should be up to the artist if they wish to post their name either on the thumbnail or on the opened photo.

I can see how some people would want the name of the artist on the thumb. Its kinda like Steven King not putting his name on the front of his new novel. Some may not pick it up but most would just because it says Steven King. Am i making any sense...probably not.
Some just gotta know on the cover before they open the book.

David,

I understand. There are some issues, but rather than debate them now, we should wait until John has a chance to respond and get things under control. We don't need to escalate while he isn't able to catch up on all the "goings on".

It makes perfect sense.

I think a tilte is also very important for a photo. It can help understand, it can help accentuate a mood etc...but even if my titles look cr@ppy, they are mine and part of my picture.

The other thing is the following: I monitor how many hits my pictures get. There are many pictures that aren't much to look at on a thumbnail and get only interesting when you really look at them, but I am sure that MANY people just look at the thumbnails and dismiss what they think is not going to be nice to look at. It's completely off in many cases, you miss the details, the colors; you even miss the composition. (and it's VERY importnt also with a "reflections" challenge theme. What can you see with a thumbnail??)

We end up with just a thumbnails expo, not a photo challenge. If hiding part of the information (in this case the name) makes people click on the preview and display the photo, even if it's just out of curiosity to see who did it then it's great.

Here is the script for ZipperZ' modified titles. Copy/Paste this into your title field and then swap out ZipperZ' name and title with your own.

i also agree. Thats why i dont think its right to add the artists name to the thumb if it wasnt there before. People should be allowed to introduce their work the way they want to. Maybe even no name or title on the thumb
