Hello All. Long time reader and long time fan, but havent used my Dark Angel much yet.

Here is my story and the help that I need. I just got back from London and of course took the 707 to take some pics in Phil's homeland. I learned many valuable lessons (like have a TRI-pod with you when taking longer exposures!! lol) with the cam while I was there. Most of the problems I figured out what was wrong (like the blur without the tripod), but ONE in particular has me COMPLETELY perplexed (not that hard to do obviously!!).

My wonderful BIG Sony WIde Angle Lens that looks SO good on the camera. I have to admit it was funny being a tourist there, once I put the wide angle lens on, EVERYONE suddenly began asking me technical questions about THEIR cameras!! As you can/will see from this posting I am FAR FAR FAR from an expert. Although I have to admit it was kind of cute!

Needless to say ALL of my pics with the Wide Angles lens on turned out DARK and Blurry (nice combination huh!!). It was a CONSISTENT problem.

Can you wonderful STFers please explain to this novice WHAT I might be doing wrong and WHAT the secret to using the wide angle lens is...PLEASE????

I do believe I had changed the Conversion Lens setting to ON. I have probably tried to take 30 pics with the Wide Angle on and they ALWAYS turn out that way. Besides Canceling the Flash and changing the Conversion Lens setting is there anything else I am supposed to do?? I even tried manual focus and those turned out just as blurry. Does one have to have SUPER LIGHTING to use the Wide Angle Lens?

Thank you ALL in advance for your help on this issue. I read the forum quite regularly and really enjoy it...now if I could JUST get you guys to actually TAKE the pics for me!!!

Doesn't make any sense to me! I would try another WA adapter (assuming you got it at a store). Post a pic or two, I suspect no one answered your first post because they had no "idea".

Hey Dan... you should try it and share your view to us.

I didn't recommend you the Olympus wide len, but I did say it is "best" for me... :D. And you think it is also best for you... :D

And the parameters you used for wide angle shots.

Thanks guys. I will look at the settings when I get home tonight on the pics I took in London. I may also try to take a few more to TEST the lens.

I have NO idea what I could be doing wrong. Hopefully it was just a one time occurence, and I did something wrong. OTHERWISE the lens is very disappointing.

Does the Sony lens require very bright lighting? And would flash or night photography EVER be possible with it? I suppose I could adjust the EV settings next time...but I really didnt think the lighting was inadequate.

So far, not nearly as useful as I had hoped.

Thanks again all!!!

Try using the macro setting and leave the conversion lens off, I think you will be able to use flash ,(external or the WA will get in the way with built in flash), hope this will help.--soli

When you set Conversion Lens to "on" in the Camera Menu the camera will go into macro mode and aperture will be limited to 4-8, Zoom, Nightshot and Nightframing will be disabled.

An aperture of 4 means longer shutter speeds compared to 2, but in full auto mode the shutter speed is limited to 1/30s or faster. That means that the shots may be darker if the light level is low, but they shouldnt be blurry.

If you didnt set Conversion Lens to "on" in the menu the shots will be blurry because the camera cant focus, you have to turn on macro mode manually.

If the shot turns out to be dark you should use aperture priority mode and use a tripod because the shutter speed will be below 1/30, maybe 1/10 or whatever. Dont forget to turn on macro mode. That way you will get correctly exposed images.

I have Conversion Lens set to "off" all the time because it sucks to always turn it on or off in the menu whether i use the Sony WW converter or not.

I have made some shot withs aperture 2, 6 and 8 and i havent seen much of a difference compared to 4. Not in landscape shots. It also possible to use a little zoom if you like, up to 1/3 of the total focal length.

Hope this helps

Wow Maik, THANKS for the tips. That explains things MUCH better for a novice like me.

It sounds like that should clear it up. I cant wait to try your advice!!!

Thanks so much for the explanation of the change in aperture...I didnt realize that. For beginners like me it is nice to understand WHY things happen.

Thanks so much to everyone for the advice!!!
