first hs senior shoot

I think #2 would look better by fixing the tilt and cropping from the elbow up (showing about 1/3 the beam on the right and a few inches below her elbow).

The lighting looks good too. My suggestion would be to play around with the composition a little. Don't always make the eyes or face the center of your image-- remember that rule of thirds and all. Often eyes look pretty cool in portraits when they're located on one of those intersecting thirds lines.

Great pics! Like them both. Mind revealing your lighting on these?

Nice job

Nice lighting. What did you use? Looks like a softbox although
the catchlight implies a brolly box, maybe?
Thanks, and you're right. I'm using a 40" Lastolite Umbrella Box with an SB-800. I love it.

Thanks alot. The key light was a 40" umbrella box, with an SB-800 shooting into it, which I fired remotely. The kicker was a large open window.

about the 1st one, and feel the 2nd would be better with more empty space camera left, and less wall camera right. Lighting is otay.

Regards, Phillip @ Keepsake,

I've never carried bags for anyone, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night ;)

Dave,

Nice images. Beautiful girl. I wanted to comment on the background, especially in the 2nd image. While the pretty girl against gritty/urban background is often quite effective, something isn't quite working for me in this image. I personally found the background to be somewhat overpowering and distracting from the subject.

Take care,

Yes, the 2nd one is getting re-cropped, since this copy is not cropped at all. I like the first one...the one eye gives it an incomplete feeling and her slight smile gives a hint of playfullness....it came out better than I'd expected.

Thanks.

I meant to add: Do you just not like the pose? I'm not sure what I could have done to make that pose any better.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean. Are you referring to the background or the post? And by overpowering, do you think it's too bright? Too detailed? I guess it could get slightly darker and still retain enough detail to show the location, but not much.

Thanks,
Dave
