Where to buy Photoshop?

Just gotta say it.

I know this isn't for everybody and it is dfferent than ps so don't blame me if you don't like it. But just in case someone out there is reading this thread and wants to get a dang good image editing program for free, they might want to give it a try. It is about all I use because I run linux, but it is also for windows and mac - though I think for mac intels you gotta have x server. Not positive. http://www.gimp.org .

Caveats are different UI and only 8 bit, presently. But keep you eye on it if you aren't invested in ps. (Ps is fine fine fine but I'm saying - if you're broke or otherwise inclined..)

I like the UI better than ps now that I've been using it - but some never will. There's more and more books out on it now too. If you're a linux user, also keep an eye on Krita, which does have higher bit rates but seems not quite there yet for me- but is coming on like gangbusters.

cheers, JD

Hi JD I remember Gimp a few years back when i got free copy of the then proto type on the front of a mag. It was very basic back then and I was tild to keep an eye out for it. I was onoly a few days ago told by a friend who's work place is all going over to linux that thye use Gimp now as a prefered procesing software.

In the past certain people ive some across as I've learnt or asked for info to learn more tell me this is best or that is best. I now know this is not so its often a preference and a personal one as to what you wish to use the aplication for.

Ones own style of photography will also efect what software suits. I've found the DPP is just what I need for what comes from my camera and to convert for a B+W, yet for colour I find it wanting somewhat. Horses for courses. pigeons for pie :> > )

Anyways thanks for reminding me as my friend did about gimp I shall have a look after all these years.
