I am really considering the K10 for my next camera (instead of D80 and 400D). However, I believe all of these dslrs take great pics and it is very important to choose the brand with the best/affardable lenses. That being said, where can I find info/reviews/ratings on lenses I can use for the K10?

Regards
Steve

ps My first slr was a Pentax 35 years ago...given to me by my Mom. I would love to get one again especially since I am tired of reading about nothing other than Nikon and CAnon.

Me too, I pre-ordered my K10D from Amazon a couple days ago - it says it will ship between Nov 13-20 - I doubt it will!

Anyways theis should get you started: http://www.photodo.com/category_2.html

Note that 3rd party lenses such as Sigma, Tamron also make lenses for Pentax mount cameras. My intial two lenses I will be going for are the Pentax 50-200 f4-5.6 and either the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5 Macro or the new (not the older non macro version) Sigma 18-50 f2.8 Macro.

Pentax really has a less range of lenses to choose from compared to Canon/Nikon.

That said, however...:
  • Effective in-body SR saves you from looking into stabilized lens (they're all stabilized!)
  • The 'kit lens' (18-55) you get with the camera for virually free is a good one (unlike other companies' kit lenses)
  • You can find a good selection of short to medium range lenses and a fair number of excellent primes. What's really missing right now is a selection of superzooms.
To start with, look at the kit lens (if you'd like to think of a wider and better alternative you can consider the DA 16-45), the DA 50-200 is a good one, the 50mm 1.4 is said to be a great (and very fast) prime.. And there's also a selection of lenses from Tamron/Sigma + affordable tele-converrters. That's enough to keep one busy for a while..

Pentax claims that the K series of Digital cameras (K10/K100) will support each and every lens ever made by Pentax. Maybe you already have a few lenses for the K10D :)

seems like the people in the pentax forum are a lot nicer than canon or nikon.

ps...I still have the pentax slr upstairs (with kit lense only)

I hear that said all the time in this forum usually in comparison to the Canon 18-55 kit lens. I currently own two Pentax kit lenses and have owned three Canon kit lenses. The one I got on the Rebel XT was disappointing. It was really not all that sharp. I sold it on ebay and replaced it with one like came on my Rebel D. Both of them were amazingly sharp, much sharper than either of my Pentax kit lenses. Don't assume the Pentax kit lens is superior, just hope it is as good.

I always suggest folks not make comparisons without owning and using the items they are comparing. It is way way too easy to live with generalities that have no basis in real world experience.

Is the Pentax kit lens a good lens. It is decent, but if you spend a day with the Sigma 17-70 or a good prime you will soon realize it is a cheap piece of plastic junk by comparison.

The folks on this forum are much nicer than the other forums. The ones on the Konica-Minolta forum are nice too but KM is dead . . .

If that old kit lens is a Pentax 50, even the f/2 then you've got one good prime to use with your new camera.
