I plan to buy a "pocketable" digital camera that I can take anywhere and always have with me. I currently use a Kodak 4800 which is way too large. I know the Sony P5 will work as it is very small but its purely point & shoot & I'm not sure of picture quality.

I discovered the Canon S30/40 line. I like it's advanced features over the P5 (AP, SP, Manual, etc.) The question is...given the camera's size 1.7" wide, 2.4" in height and a weight of 11.4 oz w/battery, will it FIT in a man's dress shirt pocket? Has anyone carried one there for an entire day? I work in an engineering field and I have to visit field locations, customer offices, etc.

I own an Olympus Stylus film camera and have taken it everywhere. I would like to do this with a digital camera. I have tired to check this out but Best Buy & Circuit City have so many wirez dangling from their display models its hard to really know.

Would anyone please refer me to any s30 picture galleries on line.

Thanks
Mike

this came from a search on s30 galleries... not a lot of gallieries, though. I assume that you looked at the review gallery for the s40, but specifically wanted to see s30 shots.

I have an S40 (same size as S30) and it fits perfectly in a dress shirt pocket. I would think it's a little heavy to carry there all day though.

Mike,

The S30 will not fit comfortably in a shirt pocket it's much to big and heavy.

If I were you I'd definitely get the P5, in my opinion it's a more solid camera too. I bought and S30 only to send it back two days later. I am now waiting for my G2 - but that is definitely too big.

If size is the most important feature for you, I would consider the following:
Canon S110
Canon S300
Fuji 6800
Minolta X
Sony P5

Out of all of those, I'd say the P5 or Fuji 6800 is your best bet. The Canon's are awesome too, but only 2.1 MP.

Good luck...
Matt.
