Hello everybody!

Here are some pics taken last Sunday on Mt. Etna (Italy) with a friend's 350D.

C&C welcome! :)

P.S.: don't know know the camera very well, I enabled Noise reduction for long exposure in the custom function menu (together with mirror lock-up) and expected the camera to take another shot for dark frame after for example 30s long shots but it didn't do that. The image was immediately available. Do you have an explanation? Thanks!

Lovely shots! The third one particularly stands out :D

As a matter of interest, what lens were you using?

I like the one with the dark background 2nd from last. Be carefull, remeber what happened during the last big eruption. Best Wishes.

Nice to see how the one I like the least is the one both you and Lan prefer... ;-)

What happened? Don't remember anything particular from last eruption.

However, I'm always very carefull when climbing up on Etna during eruptions. The shots were taken from faaaaaar away. ;)

Thanks for posting your comments,

Federico

Thanks Bryan!
Is this volcano normally this active, or is this a rare eruption?
Etna is the biggest active volcano in Europe (roughly 3300m). It isn't normally this active but eruptions are not rare events. This eruption started last week and there was some activity 1 month ago (just lava flowing out, no fountains).

Latest BIG eruption was in 2002, another one in 2001. Big damages to forests and skying facilities during those years.

Between big eruptions there is always some smoke from the central crater and occasionally some lava going out of cracks at lower altitude.
Bye,

Federico

No ideas regarding what's written above?
Thanks in advance

Tutte bellissime, ma l'ultima è micidiale. Da sognarsela stanotte.

All beautiful shots, but the last one is a killer. Impressive enough to dream of it tonight.

Ciao Federico,

I am not sure why the image is directly available with noise reduction on. I know that the Canon cameras usually do not need noise reduction for exposures up to a minute. But maybe check it again at home, with the lens cap on.

Great shots of the Etna fireworks by the way.
Are you from Catania?
I visited the Etna last weekend. It was pretty awesome!

Thanks!
Are you from Catania?
Yes, I do. I actually live in Sant'Agata li Battiati, a small village close to Catania.

Yes, the show is lasting very long, the situation is changing every day. I think it is a big attraction for tourists and people who are not used to live under a volcano.
You have some awesome shots in your galleries, and it seems you also had a good time here. Bravo!

Ciao
Federico.

Ciao,

Federico.
