Having just bought my Sony Alpha I am looking to get a 2nd battery. There are lots on eBay from Hong Kong, Australia & Japan for a fraction of the cost of the Sony ones. Has anyone bought one of the cheaper ones and found it to be either good or bad?

I bought several of them - from various sources. They all work o.k. and I am happy with them. However, be prepared that they last a bit less than an original battery from Sony.

I ordered one, along with a car charger, two weeks ago. Hope to get it soon now. I checked the forums a bit before buying and the reactions are that it's not exactly the same stamina as the Sony, but it surely does give you the opportunity to keep shooting. And that's the most important thing.

All those cheap chinese accesoires are less well made, but you will pay about 15% of the orinial Sony/Minolta product, and get about 70% of the product quality. Good deal I'd say!

Try Sterlingtek.com
Good price for a good product that lasts.

In the event that you happen to get a bad one (which i never have) they will replace it with no problem.

I have one, that simply will not fully charge. No mater how long it is left on the charger, the charge indicator light does not switch off. I also get considerably less shooting time with it than the sony battery. having said that, it is fine as a back up.

I bought a "CTA" battery from bluenook.com for $21. So far it seems to work just fine, I haven't noticed a significant difference in performance between it and the Sony battery.

I bought a battery and auto charger from this place.

It came right away, and it works fine. I haven't done any scientific tests but in regular use it doesn't seem to be significantly weaker or quicker to run out than the original. I liked it so much that I got another one just last week from the same place. I'm hoping to get the vertical grip from Taiwan soon so figured I could use the two extra batteries.

my afternarket spare battery seems to have a shorter charge life than the Soy. I can't be sure but it seems like it.

I purchased two from this source and at £17.50 inc airmail post was a bargain. They work as well as Sony.

My experience from this seller is the same. I had a couple of anomolies...

1) I ordered 2x spares and they only sent one. This was rectified efficiently by the seller.

2) When I first put the second spare battery in it came up as incompatible. "Oh no... here we go!!" I thought, especially after the above issue but I took it out and put it back in and it started working. All of the settings on the camera were reset to the factory default, however, and the file name counter went back to 0001. It has worked flawlessly ever since and I rotate my batteries so every third re-charge it is in, and it must have been used 15+ times by now. They all seem to last a similar amount of time.

U use china A100 batteriea and they last just as long as the Original ones.

The replacements for my R1 last MUCH longer than the sony version.
