I mostly shoot weddings with the Fuji S3. My favorite lens for the job is Nikon 17-55mm 2.8. I am thinking of buying a wider lens. Considering 12-24mm f/4 or the 10.mm f/2.8. I'm sorta leaning towards the 10.5 for some reason. Although I don't think that I would use the lens a lot, the look that it gives just might be worth the purchase for the few shots that I would be able to capture with it.

I'd like to know your favorite wide angle lens for Wedding Photography. Would love to see some pictures if possible. Thanks in advance.

Tommie

--One thing I personaly dislike is distorted edges with funy looking bended leggs heads and so on on wedding pics.Don'y understand why peopel need super wide angel lenses to cover that typ of pics.Fish eye is another story but no more than 3-5 shots per wedding.I don't do weddins now but I did and looking at other work never understund why they use that.I only will go as wide as I can with out getting distortion.24mm will do.

hello. i use the 10.5 fisheye on weddings. but don't use it a lot. just a little.

i've seen some nice shots used by 12-24... i'm also thinking of adding it to my kit, since i only have the 17-55 as my widest, except the fisheye.

Normally I don't use ultra-wide lenses too much to shoot weddings, but sometimes it works well. Here is a shot with the Tokina 12-24 that turned out nice.

And another "novelty" type shot, again with the Tokina. I was laying down on the grass next to the sidewalk for this one. Lens at 12mm.

One one with the 10.5mm. I have seen other photogrphers do some creative things with this lens, but I wouldn't overuse it.

Please don't judge my wedding work by these few images. :)

I bought sigma 10-20 just a few days ago, so dont have any wide wedding pictures. But also want to use it in any special situations during weddings.

John,

I really like pic #1. This is one of the type shots that I would like to capture with the 12-24. I also like the way that you used it in pic#2. I read some pretty good reviews on the Tokina 12-24. At $499 (B&H) I may even consider purchasing it as well as the 10.5. I know that I would only use the 10.5 for very special and unique situations but I do see where even a fisheye lens can be a useful tool in my bag.

Only problem is B&H does not have Tokina lens in stock (I interpret this to mean that the lens is selling). I have not seached any other sources as of yet. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for the reply Davy,

I really like the last photo. I realize there will only be rare moments that I would pull this tool out of the bag but for a sanctuary shot like this I think it will be worth the purchase. In my opinion, if I only take 2-3 real keepers with it on most jobs, it will be a valuable tool to have with me.

Excellent examples Karl!

Don't worry, I wouldn't over do it if I make the purchase but being able to get angles as in your examples and some of the previous posters, I think it would be a worthwhile purchase. I wouldn't over do it but I think that the additional wide angle and occasional fisheye shots would compliment the others nicely if not overused. I am really considering both the Tokina 12-24 and the Nikkor 10.5. I am going to research the Tokina a little more before purchasing. I hope that I am able to find it in stock someplace.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.
Happy Shooting!

Warm regards, Dave.
Smile when you answer the phone, they can hear it in your voice.

Karl,

After viewing your gallery closer, I found even more superwide angle wedding shots that I thought were awesome. You have a nice mixture of the superwide and "normal" shots and they compliment each other nicely. This is the look that I am going for. I am not trying to take a ton of pictures with these extreme lenses but I think they would compliment the work that I presently do very well. Thanks again :-)
