Hi folks

I am considering a used istD mail order from KEH in Atlanta. I live in UK.

Does anyone have any bad/good comments about them for me to consider (I live in UK) ?

Thanks,

Rod

KEH is highly regarded here. They tend to be very conservative when rating their lenses. They have a good returns policy. I don't know about purchasing from the UK, but I had no problems ordering from them in the US.

I have used KEH once and was very, very satisfied with all aspects of their service. I live in Canada and shipping was prompt and unproblematic. Lenses were very good.

I have dealt with them several times both for lenses and gear. I have never had problems with them. I've even called them with questions and have gotten good well informed answers.

I have only one experience - i bought a lens that was not exactly the model I had expected and they accepted the return without question.

Their ratings are widely regarded as conservative

You'd better hurry! I ordered one of the LN- bodies from them about 90 minutes ago, or, rather, had a friend who owed me a few bucks order it. I paid full price for my current D, and have had no problems with it, but I want a back-up body. At $415 plus shipping ($14.95), it beats the leaving daylights out of what I paid almost three years ago.

I've dealt with Keh several times and they've always delivered a bit more than promised as quickly as promised.

I've done a lot of business with them over the past decade and never had any difficulties. When they've made a mistake, or I have, it was sorted out professionally, quickly, and in a friendly way. Good people.

I don't know what their policies are with overseas delivery but they've been very amenable to a phone call if you have any questions.

yes, what the others said is true. Their rating system is VERY conservative, if they rate something as good, it's sure to be in perfect functional condition.

I have ordered once from KEH. Nothing wrong with service, price or rating.

But, I live in EU as well, I found them too expensive in the end. They use a transportation courier that has a kind of full service meaning they help you with all the hassles with customs and VAT. This is a nice service but the courier charges you for that, no matter what your item is worth they use a standard fee. In the end you have to pay shipping + customs + VAT + the courier's standard fee and then VAT for the fee... :)

Maybe it isn't the same in UK as in Sweden but I suspect it is, the courier was one of these big companies present everywhere. This may or may not be a concern. Buying a more expensive item makes the shipping and so on a minor concern.

regards,

Jonas

I've bought many things from them over the years, including a Pentax DL. Never had a problem. On the other hand, I live in the US and didn't have to deal with couriers, VAT and such.

If using standard postal services, in the UK there is only VAT to pay (17.5% of the total cost including post), plus a small admin charge that is normally £8.00. I don't know about other carriers so I will bear this in mind, thanks.

Hey, that's what I had my eye on (LN-), listed on the website at $465!!

After adding VAT I expect about £300 but I am awaiting them to confirm shipping costs.

Thanks everyone for your input here, I guess I can trust them!

I've had the same experience as Jonas. And this was for Denmark. The prize I ended up paying was a bit high with all the extras. but at least the lens was rated very positively.

I ordered a lens that was obviously defective. All you had to do was rotated the focusing ring and you felt it grinding and snapping. I returned it to be repaired. I called a week or so later and they said it would be several weeks till they could take a look at it. I thought on that and called them back for a refund. They refunded just the price of the lens. I called them back and told them the lens was obviously defective and should have never been sent out and that I should receive a refund for the shipping too. They issued a refund for the shipping. When I ordered the lens they hit me up for a pair of lens caps too, generic ones. Seems like most lenses have caps no matter what the source.

Over all it was a poor experience. I would order from them again if they had what I want, but I would call them on the phone and not place the order till they had the item in hand and could describe it exactly to me.

Here is are a couple experiences that are a contrast to that. I got a lens from Cameta Camera that was defective. They issued a refund for the lens and the shipping and issued me a shipping label to return the lens with. No cost to me no inconvenience.

I got a defective camera from B&H. They issued a shipping label, and shipped a replacement to my Montana address since I was leaving for my Montana home the next day. The replacement almost beat me there.

I got a broken printer from New Egg. They sent a replacement right away and had the UPS driver pick up the broken one a few days later, no questions asked no delays.

I could probably come up with a half a dozen other similar situations where retailers not only issued immediate refunds, but paid shipping charges both ways.

Based on my single experience with KEH, I have not looked to them since, other than seeing a lens I was interested in last spring and couldn't get an answer to my email in its regard. They had no way of relating me to the previous experience, so I figured they didn't respond to email questions unless they could supply good answers. The question concerned two lenses that were exactly the same as far as I could tell, but were a hundred dollars apart in price. I'm thinking if I had ordered at the lower price I would have gotten an out of stock response. Basically, I asked them to tell me what the difference between them was. Since I got no repsonse, I didn't order.

Based on all the good experiences in these forums, I have to think they are a good outfit. But my experience has not been all that positive.

Rod: I've bought three lenses from them, and have been happy: a 24-90 Pentax zoom, and a K-mount 105/2.8, both in very good condition; and just arrived yesterday, an FA135 2.8, in somewhat bashed up condition cosmetically but fully functional.

As has already been said they grade their lenses pretty conservatively; on the other hand they are not super-cheap.

You may pay a bit more for the honest assessments of condition and the service, but it's worth it for me anyway.

It had dropped 50 bucks, so I jumped on it. There were still two others, but not in the LN- category. Good luck.

One sold on ebay in UK for £290 within the last 2weeks, I think the price on used ones is softening at last.
