when I preordered Amazon gave a release date of late October. This was changed to November. Then I got an email changing it to 12/1. Now I see on Pentax's site the release date is Jan 15, 2007 !

This strongly suggests the camera is in trouble, doesn't it ?

I am not going to remove my order - I want the camera - but this is certainly disquieting. Anybody know why the date is being pushed back over and over ?

I dont think that its true but if it is that ... pitiful. i hope that pentax will bee realased soon

Doesn't this just mean that the first shipments were sold out, and that new pre-orders won't be available until 2007 shipment?

Don't be sorry, Rennie, this site is very appropriate. I'm looking forward to an answer on this site. The answer will mean a lot to fellow Pentaxians.

There is without a doubt supply problems due to the amazing demand for this camera... i don't think its in delayed for technical reasons...

As for the release date they seem to be all over the place at retailers. Where I pre-ordered from in Canada they still have the date as next week so who knows. All that is certain is that in Japan the date is the 30th of Nov...

No, the camera is in production NOW. Production started last week, so this is the 2nd production week. But the pre-orders is far larger than Pentax has expected, so it will take some time for them to meet the demand. The first units will be shipped mid November, so late november - early december should it be distributed worldwide to customers, but it may take time for new customers to get the camera since Pentax has received so many pre-orders.

Take care

Amazon UK and delivery dates - for anything with a long lead time it feels a bit like a random number generator.

and I can't recall when they shipped anything within 48 hours, even though all Items brought suggest withing 24 hrs

Did anyone tried to contact Samsung for the GX10 delivery? If K10d is coming on January I wouldn't mind getting the Samsung right away!

Wow. That's amazing news. Previously we heard that production had started in (a) early October, and (b) mid September.

If this is true, it further undercuts Pentax's claim that they wanted to build up stock before shipping. Heck, they haven't been building up stock. They've been finishing the camera.

Amazon's site says that the release date is January 15. Release date, not shipping date, not availability date for second-round orders. Release date. If Amazon has been careful in using the term "release" (which we can't be sure), then they won't have any cameras to ship until then.

But it is too early to conclude this. If B&H and Adorama also change their availability dates to January, then we will know that the camera has been delayed further.

You don't work for Pentax then Roland ? This is pretty precise information. Anyway keep it coming, cheers.

I think it means just that. Today I called our local Pentax rep....

Ofcourse I asked about the K10D. It will be with the main dstributors last half of november and form there they will be shipped to the stores..

So on the safe side first week(s) of december PROVIDED you had it pre -ordered. If not, you will have to wait longer as demand is bigger than expected

What does the demand have to do with release dates? I would assume they are shipping units as they build them instead of accumulating inventory. This makes no sense to me.

Yep. I couldn't believe that some people fell for that hogwash about building up stocks. I just wish that Pentax had announced the delay without trying to spin it.

I also wish they had done a decent PR job and announced the delay properly on each country’s website at the same time that they announced the delay in Japan. That would have removed any uncertainty.

"Disquieting" is a bit strong, isn't it? Hey, it's just a camera. :)

The ship date is only slipping by a month or two - that's not a big deal. These types of delays are not unusual, especially around the Christmas season. It happens all the time in the consumer electronics world. Put it this way. It coulda been worse. Take for example, the Sony Playstation 3. Or the latest iPod Shuffle. Or Windows Vista. The list goes on and on. I think we're getting off lucky with just a 1-2 month delay!

Although I'm excited about the release, I'm also patiently waiting. If there WERE problems with the camera (for example, with the image processing or some other critical functionality), I would much prefer that Pentax sort out the problems BEFORE shipping it to customers.

In the mean time, I'm still happily shooting with my *ist DS.

It would be interesting to know what the different statements meant. I was saying weeks ago that the camera wouldn't be in full scale production initially, and they would also make a pile of cameras before they put the firmware into them.

I hope Roland's statement amounts to "boxed cameras have been rolling off the production line at the rate of 4000 a week for the last two weeks & they have another few thousand from early-mid october. " that would be great.

If it acutally means that "Production had a couple of false starts" that's would be tollerable.

The last possibility is that Pentax told lies. I trust them. If it turns out they have been dishonest I will be more angry because of that.

Given Mr. Tatamiya's statement about how the demand for the K100D surprised Pentax, I wonder if the reason for the K10D delay is that Pentax needed to continue producing the K100D, especially with Christmas coming up.

Just wondering.

--The original Ist D was delayed, if I remember correct, almost 6 months due to sensor acquisition problems. I remember feeling the frustation as I had placed an early order.

I also know that several of Canon's and Nikon's introductions were delayed in getting to the market place. It's no big deal and based on past experiences with all the camera makers, a normal occurrence. I wouldn't worry about it and don't read too much into it.
