Aperture 1.5.1 addresses numerous issues related to overall reliability and performance in all areas of the application, including:

Keywords
Loupe
Cropping
Previews
Metadata presets
Versions
File renaming
iPhoto Library import
Watermarks

The download link is still not giving you 1.5.1, only 1.5

Funny that above list is on the website http://www.apple.com/aperture

Interesting, because if there was truly an update then 'Software Update' should update Aperture but its not picking up anything. Just an iTunes update. Anyone actually getting an update from 1.5 to 1.5.1?

Thanks - Frag

Just checked with "Software Update"...

It's a 128Mb download (I'm on a dual G5)

I will download it later....

Haha there must be a kajillion people downloading it. My download got to 1.1k and stopped, then timed out - I'll try later

It seems to require a somewhat lengthy library update...

Thanks for the info on 1.5.1

Just downloaded it. Projects load much more quickly than they did in 1.5; it's a nice improvement!

I wonder, though, why does it take so long for a selected image to load (in full screen mode) and "pop" into focus? I'm on a G5 Mac dual processor and it seems to take "too long" to load into focus photos, particularily when I'm looking at hundreds of photos in a session, the waiting adds up.

Any thoughts??

Thanks,
Londongal

Just to clarify, I should have asked this question in my post above.

Is there anything I can do to increase the "loading" speed of images when using Aperture in "full frame" mode on the monitor? I get so impatient waiting and waiting for one image to load, and when I cycle through multiple images it seems like I'm waiting a long time for each image to pop into focus before I can assess it and move on.

It is possible I'm just impatient, but is there anything I can do to reduce the time images take to load and come into focus?

Thanks!

I downloaded the update, but when I try to install it I get:

"There was an error while evaluating JavaScript for the package."

Any ideas on what is going wrong? I downloaded it twice, and get the same error.

This has been mentioned in other threads, but seems relevant here. If you need to have Previews, which are useful if you need high res versions of your images while you away from your master images, if you want to drag images from Aperture to the Finder or use slideshows, then create Previews on a Project by Project basis.

The slow update to full screen could be because the new update is still building Previews for all images. You can turn that off by control-clicking the on the Library and turn off "Maintain Previews for All Projects'. Also you can turn off generating new Previews by going to the Preferences and turning off 'New Projects Automatically Generate Previews'.

My own experience with the new 1.5.1 on a dual 1.8 G5 is that full screen, zoom and loupe are much faster. I upgraded to an ATI x800x card and have 4GB ram. The GPU is much more important for speed than the CPU. The library rebuild took about 3 minutes with 5,000+ images. Rebuilt Masters first, then Versions.
