I notice that a lot of folks on here have online albums. Is there a good free one that I might be able to use.

Also, how do you post photos in your messages?

Thanks for the help.

I'm very satisfied with both smugmug.com and flickr.com.

Flickr is the most easy to use and most convenient one but still misses a whole lot of features. Smugmug on the other hand has much numerous interesting features (changing the look of your site and a protection to copy your images for example)...

Once an image is in your photostream (Flickr) you can click on it and enlarge it and see the url or link you can copy and paste into your e-mail or post. The same for smugmug, where you have an option below your image that you can click if you want to use the image in a blog, website, e-mail etc... Just click on the link/optiion and you get an overview of all the linkcodes that you can use. Just copy and paste the link on your site, in e-mails, your post etc...

I use phanfare.com , it costs $6 a month, but there is no advertising and you have almost unlimited bandwith. They also provide both a mac and PC application for managing your pictures.

I initially tried Flickr, and was happy with it for myself - but thought the interface was a little too daunting, or "busy", for my less computer-literate friends & family.

Then Google opened Picasa web-pages to Mac-users like me, and I have shifted to them - because the interface is very straight-forward and "clean".

They also provide a free batch-uploader, similar to the one I used for Flickr, to upload images.

The interface has no personalization capabilities - and may be "plain Jane" or "vanillla" - but it is easy for people to view my pictures.

My Flickr site still has most of the images I've since uploaded to my Picasa site:

I iuse Pbase for my gallery (annual fee- I think it was like $20 or $25) and Photobucket for free hosting of things I want to just post on a webiste like this.

I finally have a photo gallery under construction. You can view it here: http://www.pbase.com/jeffryz/galleries

I'm just hitting the 250mb limit on my free account, and upgraded [Oct 31]to the $25/year 6-GB account.

My full-size D50 pictures are all automatically resized by the free batch-uploader to 1600x1064 [The program asks whether you want to do this, or upload at original size - and offers 3 smaller sizes to choose from, with 1600x1064 being the largest of the 3 choices].

I was able to get 329 photos onto the free account, and still have a few MB left-over. [I think I was at 96% when I bought the upgrade]

i have tried most of them and have settled finally on zenfolio. Moving all of my good galleries there.

It has much nicer control, and easier access to photo features too. Flickr was interesting but for me Zen has the best feature set.

I sure like the more sophisticated look and feel of Zenfolio, but it's hard to beat the value of Smugmug.

Unlimited storage, more than enough bandwidth, no ads, etc. The aesthetics aren't too bad either. The ability for folks to order reasonably priced prints from the site is a big plus.

The unlimited storage feature is very important to me... it would be a very big deal to have to delete files every now and then to make more room. In the year or so I've been with Smugmug, I've posted about 6GB of photos.

They resize process they use soften and darken the images. Great for sharing photos from the party though.

After spending a lot of timeevaluating several free and for-fee hosting sites - including Phanfare, Smugmug, Zenfolio, Flickr - I finally decided to go with Phanfare ( http://www.phanfare.com/ ).

Unlimited storage, ease of use, slick and nice album design, speedy (background) upload, awesome video integration, and the note to soon have an open API that will enable third party applications/add-ons are the reasons for my decision. So far no regrets, very happy.

If you need promotion codes for Phanfare ($7.- off) or for Smugmug ($5.- off), send me an email and I'd be happy to email you a valid code.

Yeah, Zenfolio would be great, but he asked about FREE sites. Zenfolio is free for only the first 14 days. Picassa. Flickr. Go there.
