can someone tell me how to insert a photo or two within the body of the post, without having to provide link to the pbase website? thanks.--oedipus

the picture doesn't have to be at pbase, but it does have to be
somewhere on the web. simply put a link to wherever that
image is in your post, make sure to include the file extension (.jpg)
on the end, and the system will take care of the rest.

Be aware however, that some sites don't always let you directly access
image files (fortunecity.com is one) and may return errors when people
pull up your post.

What I do is view the pic in the size I want, then do a right-click on the image, copy the link, and paste that. It just allows you to control the "size" so the viewer doesn't have to scroll the image.

For example:

And
...image2.pbase.com/u6/mjwidell/medium/977991.st%5fa.jpg

Just copy and paste the link in your post and add .jpg to the end.

When you post a pic, it's not a bad idea to use the "preview" rather than "post" feature at the bottom of the new message. If you have embedded the link properly and everything is ok on the other end, the image will appear in the preview. If it is not to your satisfaction, you can edit the message and preview again. When you get it to your liking, then post the message.

I think he was asking if there is a way to embed a pic in a post without having a referrence to and external source.

Phil doesnt have the HD space to store everyones pics, or the bandwidth to take in and deliver. So its arranged to referrence and outside storage site, such as pbase ( and many others), and draw the file from that source and insert it into the forum page.

When you see a forum entry with an embedded image, that image does not reside in Phils systems. Only the text and link are on Phils HDs.

No, Max.. he was asking how to embed a picture from pbase, rather than provide a link to the pbase website, and therefore someone would have to go to the pbase site to view it.

Hi Steve......

This picture was embedded from MSN Communities. However, it was linked to my documents page and the last item in the url was changed to the file name of the pic.jpg. I went to your page in communities, and in clicking to your documents, I found that you have a lock on your files. As a previous poster noted, pictures are not stored here on this forum but rather displayed by linking to your file. It would seem that since your files are locked the picture cannot be shown. One further problem with MSN. I embedded this pic in an earlier post to see if I could do it. You can, but only some people can see it. With two replies, one could see it, and one could not. It seems that if people have no connection to msn, all they got is the Passport, and for that you need the password. As for myself, I checked the box "leave me signed in". At least some can see it.

I'm assuming that if you open this, you will see the picture and could try reposting to see if embedding through your documents will work.

Good luck

Does anyone know how to get to the jpg file level.

Here is a link to a picture, but I would like to know how to embed it.

Above is 3 links to the same pic.

If you click on #1, you'll get the image (as if you were IN the gallery)
  1. 2 gets you the "Creating Thumbnails" message
  1. 3 gets you just the image in your browser window (no Pbase info at all except for in the URL)
I believe the problem is because some of you are right clicking on the image on in your gallery to get the link to it and some of are clicking on the URL in the address window.

The difference is the URL window does not contain the file extension. RIght clicking on the image itself adds the extension.

I think it depends on what browser you're using.

I use IE6 and Opera. I don't know what you get when you right click on the image in other browsers.

This does not explain why Pbase can't display the image using either method.

So maybe we all could get into the habit of right clicking/copy on the URL in the address window and not the image itself. We should probably as Slug if he's aware of the "problem".

And while it's on my mind, I sure wish that we could try to remember to remove the link to an EMBEDDED image when we reply. It's seems like such a waste of bandwidth not to mention a drag for those of us with dialup connections. Especially when there are multiple images!!! I need to see the image(s) only once in a thread.

Wilson,
Thanks for the help. Yes, that is exactly what I am tring to do.
I don't have 'copy image location' as an option when I right click an image.
I use MS Internet Explorer 5.5.

What browser are you using?

Thanks again for the help.
