im giving it all shes got captain

i just bought the first t5d version about 3 months ago and bought quantums radio slave to make it radio ttl wireless heck if i really wanted to use the canon or nikons wireless ttl i woulda stayed with my oems branded flash .. but what mainly intrigues me is the ability to also do ratio with the ttl system so it may be worth my while to have quantum upgrade my strobes for a few dollars

lovet the flash .. however i havent begun to tinker with all the possible control it gives the user so far ive only used it in ttl mode i set my to manual or aperture priority .. quantum actually reccomends not to set camera on program mode ..from what i can understand the newer versions will have ttl ratio capability even when using the camera makers wireless system also i understand under older units can be upgraded for a small fee

I saw a pretty lengthy display of the Lumedyne this morning (a 2 hour "course" by the general manager of the company). Do you have any idea how the Quantum compares to the Lumedyne? As near as I can tell, they are both up to 400ws, and battery powered. What distinguishes them?

I have both Lumendye and the Quantum X2D flash, which is the predecessor for the New Quantum 5D flash head model. (I will be buying a Quantun 5D flash soon, to complement my QFlash X2D model.)

My Lumedyne power pack, powers my Quantum X2D model. For power, capabilties and all the features, there's nothing to beat it on the market.

At my wedding last weekend, I did all the formals by bouncing the flash into the wall behind me. It produced beautiful shadowless bridal portraits inside a photo room. No LS, Flip It or diffuser could have done the same job! (I am a Canon shooter, so even the 580 flash couldn't equal the versatility of the Qflash models.)

There are 2 models of the QFlash. One that adapts to Lumedyne Power packs and the other to the Quantum Turbo Batteries. They are NOT interchangeable. The capacitor setups are different in the QFlash series.

Go the to Quantum site and check the info out. Choose widely, if you are interested. The only drawback is the cost!

Way more expensive than the normal flash units. But for sheer power, beautiful light, check it out!

Thanks! The guy from Lumedyne also gave an illustration of the particular technique you describe, and it really impressed me. In fact, he showed how you can just attach the head directly to the powerpack and sit it on a dresser (or something), pointed into the corner of the room (without even a stand).

Are there features of the Quantum head that make it better/cheaper/something else compared to the Lumedyne.

Lumedyne has upgraded all their equipment in the past 2 years. The prices have shot up tremendously! I have used Lumedyne equipment for the past 16 years and it has served me well. I bought my Qflash X2D about 3 years ago and was very impressed with it. A lot more features built into it, than what Lumedyne offered.

The Lumedyne power packs are "big & heavy" compared to the Turbo Batteries.

I recommend the Qflash for power and versatilty! No other flash can touch it on the market!
