I am new to the dslr "game". I am going on holiday to vegas and grand canyon in a couple of weeks (I live in the North East of England) and would like to mount camera on tri pod so I can get myself in some of the landscape shots. I am considering the RC-1 remote but am unclear about how the camera achieves the correct exposure and focus. I have read on other threads that a half depress isn't possible and pressing the remote simply takes the picture with a "quick exposure and auto focus on the way to taking the shot". Does this mean that some shots won't focus and expose as well as they would if a half depress of the shutter was used (as would occur the camera or a wired release was used)? I would like to use this method through the day and a t night in and around the strip.

ANy insight would be appreciated.

Personally, in your case, I would prefocus and then switch to manual. That way it will not change when you push the button. Good luck~

The remote works just like a full press of the shutter button. The camera will autofocus and open the shutter. If, however, the camera cannot focus, it will not fire.

For daylight landscapes, it shouldn't be a problem. Even night shots of the strip should work well, providing the camera has something to focus on!

If the scene is monotone, or so dark that the camera cannot find a contrasting point to focus on, you will have to use manual focus. After that, the remote works well.
