Hi there,

my Leica Digilux 1 is on it's last legs...

The battery is finished, it can't hold any charge at all.

The flash died a few years back and although I'm glad to bury it (with honers) my daughter is however keen to get her hands on it.

SO, B&H have the Leica battery for $89... is it worth it I wonder???

CAN I FIND A CHEAPER 3RD PARTY BATTERY ?

Any info greatly appreciated

Cheers

Of course you can.
I've been using generic batteries on my Digilux1's for about 4 years
without any problem.

Edit:
Sorry wrong camera.
I've used Panasonic batteries with no problem. i.e. Panasonic
CGR-S602A (7.2V, 1400mAh) and Panasonic CGR-S602E
(7.2V, 1400mAh).
Best,

that I can use thise panasonic batteries?
(I'm not sure what you mean by generic?

If so,howmuch do you think I can get one for?

Thanks

The Panasonic LC5 is the identical camera, and Panasonic batteries cost less. I own two Digilux 1 cameras, and they are holding up well.

You can get third-party batteries on EBay as well, but some of then are a bit dodgy. MUCH cheaper, though...

If I were searching for 3rd party battery, what is the 'code' for the battery?

I'm sorry this is such a basic question but every brand seems to have there own label system...

any help, much appreciated

thanks

Thanks very much, $9.99 sounds about right for a battery.

I've contacted them to see if they ship international. B&H have the same battery for $40.

If want to get a 3rd party battery, how would I go about it, as serial numbers change from brand to brand???

Thanks very much

You can't go wrong with Panasonic's.

I've used 3rd party ones as well but you never know if they'll be good or not when you buy them.
As far as i recall, i've got:
Good ones:
  • Leica BP-DC1-E (7.2V, 1400mAh)
  • Panasonic CGR-S602A (7.2V, 1400mAh)
  • Panasonic CGR-S602E (7.2V, 1400mAh)
Poor ones:
  • Unomat International DPA-BL14, Code No.3361 (7.2V, 1400mAh)
  • Unbranded Replace DMW-BL14, CGR-S602A/BP-DC1 (7.2V, 1300mAh)
Best,
LCT

Go to http://www.batteries.com . I bought my D2 and C-Lux batteries there. They work fine. BTW, I also bought an extra Leica battery for like $85. I see no diffference from the 3rd party batteries.
