Hey! I took some 200 pictures Thursday with my FZ20. When I down loaded them on the computer about half were gone from the card. This is not the first time it happened. They were on there when I was reviewing them as I was taking them. What went wrong? What can I do to keep this from happing again?

Thanks

I also believe we need to more about how you are loading them to the computer and what type photos they were Tiffs ..JPEGs or what.
I have 2- 1gb Kingsmax cards and have had no problems at all with them.

Just trying to learn and it's slow going!

I had the same problem with a Kingmax 1 GB card in my FZ20. Some pictures were missing when viewing in-camera, and the same ones were missing when viewing on the computer with card reader. Then the problem progressed to not being able to write to it or format it in the camera. The strange part is that l can still format, copy pictures to it and view them with the computer & card reader. It just doesn't work in the camera. Several other SD cards work well in the camera, so it is not a camera problem. So now I'm using the Kingmax card as a flash drive for the computer, so it wasn't a total waste. I replaced that card with a Sandisk Ultra 2 1GB and it is great. Bottom line: I won't buy another Kingmax card.

Re: "Bottom line: I won't buy another Kingmax card."

Good post! It just isn't that hard to make SD cards, many others work. We should publicize and then avoid cards that can't support the products they are intended to work with.

Given the state of things currently I have only bought SanDisk (a developer of flash memory products) first CF cards for my Canon A70 and now Ultra II SD cards for my FZ7. All work flawlessly and always have. They did cost more than some others, but it saved my time researching which companies' cards would "work". Really, it's a shame that we have to think that way; they should all "work". Some slower, some faster; but NONE should fail as described here. Perhaps posts like the one quoted will help correct that situation - I hope the makers of Kingmax cards get the message.

Hey! Thanks for the responses. I reread my manual and it said on page 17 “ The data on the card may be damaged or lost due to electromagnetic waves, static electricity “. Would some one talk about that? What can I do to prevent that? I called Panasonic and they told me to turn on the camera and check the play back. I have a habit of formatting my card when I get the data on my computer. But for some reason I did not do it this time. I did not see a second file the camera made. Looked in the play back and my pics were there (lucky me). I would like for someone to talk about the file system and tell me how it works and how I can control it. The only thing I can find in the book is on page 26. It said “The folder number can be assigned from 100 to 999” but I do not understand how to do that. If I locked the card I would know nothing can be erased when I am taking pictures. The book on page 87 does not say if I set the locking system can I just shoot and do not have to worry about my pics or do I have to review the pics and lock them in after reviewing them every time. It would be a pain to have to keep locking them in after reviewing them first. I did not see any thing on controlling the file system in my book other than page 26. If my batteries are weak I will put the card in my Canon MP800 printer and put the data on my computer this way. Can a reader miss a file on the card? In this case I went from the camera to the computer. I do a lot on continuous shooting so I use standard quality 2560x1920 .jpegs. I did not understand the file system and got lucky this time. If I missed something in the book direct me to the page. Give me some more advice to get better performance out of my camera and photography. I am thinking like Gene “Just trying to learn and it's slow going!”. The more skills and knowledge I know about my camera and photography the less I need to buy.

Thanks

How often to you format your SD card? If you take a lot of pictures you will have less trouble with the memory card if your format it after you download pictures to your PC. I have had a FZ20 since they first came out and always format the card after downloading images to my PC. I have never had a problem with my memory cards.

Hey! I format my KingMax card every time after I put the data on my computer. Looking for someone to answer my questions about the filing system, readers and others questions stated above on the FZ20.

Thanks
