Our local zoo had a photography contest with two cateogories, one for zoo animals only and one titled nature. I submitted two Canon photos and one Sony 717 photo in the zoo animal category. Today the zoo called me and said my Sony picture was selected as best in show!! The neatest prize is my own personal photo safari at the zoo and I will be allowed inside "most" cages and enclosures with a zookeeper to take better photos! The winning photo:

Congrats!!! It's sweet isn't it? That's an awsome pic.

I submitted some pics taken with the f717 to an exhit that featured the Northampton Bird Club at the public Library here in Northampon MA. This pic of a blue heron (link below) made in it into the local paper and was selected over many other pics, most of which were taken with high-line Canon, Nikon SLRs with their ridiculously priced 5 & 600mm lenses. The emperor’s wearing no clothes

Lovely photo Steve! And yes, I'm sure I'll be receiving some surprised looks if and when it comes to light that this picture was taken with something other than a dslr!

thanks for the nice comments. Its sometimes very frustrating to have cage or fence wires get in the way of what could be a great zoo photo. I'm looking forward to getting on the other side of the fence! Peg
