As far as I understand it is the same camera. Any good reason why to chose one over the other? Thx.

The red badge. Photoshop Elements in Leica box. 2 year warranty (I think).
Did I mention the red badge? Oh, and no thumb rest on the front.

As to whether any of these rise to significant reasons to buy the Leica over the Panasonic, that's your call. And money.

Save yourself $250 AND get a thumb rest. I don't know what I'd do with my middle finger if that thumb rest weren't there. ;-)

You might go to the Leica forum for actual examples that demonstrate any purported difference. There's talk that Leica does adjust things. If I remember, the 'adjustment' with the FX01 might have only been shipping with a default setting of 'natural' rather than 'standard.'

Until I see a structured A/B series that shows a difference, I've put most talk of differences down to subjective reasons, inlcuding that emotionally you want to believe that your extra money got you something 'different,' and because it is Leica that difference of course is 'better.' Again, check the Leica forum for other perespectives and experiences.

Unless you have to have that Red Dot on the front of the camera, and one year longer warranty, different software bundle and pay more money, I would buy the FX-01 since they come off the same assembly line. If Leica tweaks anything it wouild be very minor, I cannot see anything they would do that would change the picture quality at all that could not be set on the FX-01.

Oh it's tempting to go with what can be done with the middle finger, but I'd probably get booted.....

Maybe this explains all those blurry shots I got with my FX01 at first, holding it with my my thumb on that front bump! Once I learned that it is really a 'finger grip' and my thumb found its righful place on the back of the camera, things got much sharper :)

Has anyone noticed the user reviews for the red dot Leica C-Lux 1 compared to the reviews for the peasant's Panasonic FX01 ? Although the # of reviewers for the FX01 are greater, the Image Quality score for the Leica would average at least 4.5 and the FX01 is lucky to score an average of 3.5, lol. It's amazing how just a red dot and paying a premium, can change the outcome of virtually the same camera. Psychological or what ? ;)

If you think there is good in everybody, you haven't met everybody......

Well, that's why my question about these two cameras. I was amazed by the differences in the reviews. Is the image quality a real difference or just pure physiological due to the red dot?

Though he be but little, he is fierce. ( FZ50 about the FX50 )

Apparently Leica adjust some in camera parameters (sharpness, saturation etc), but that sort of stuff could be done ironically in a program such as Photoshop Elements which Leica bundle with their cameras, and this supposed in-camera over-processing may not suit every environment anyway, just go for the Panasonic (especially if you can get it in black, looks just as pro as the Leica ;)
