I am thinking of asking my wife for a teleconverter for Christmas, but I noticed that the Kenko will work on my 100mm and even 50mm prime lenses; however, the Canon's 1.4X teleconverter will not. It will only work with the 135mm f/2L primes and up. Which of these teleconverter's is better and is it that noticable?

Since the beauty of this world is merely a reflection the Creator's brushstroke, then my hope is to capture but a glimpse of that exquisiteness. This is my passion and endeavor, though I have just begun to nurture my skills in photography.

At least one site has a comparison between the two. I went for the Kenko Pro because it worked with most lenses. It seems to work fine.

It works on the Canon 70-300/ IS and my Sigma 100-300 f4.

You need to stop down f8 to get sharp images, but that is the price you pay for extra reach.

There are differences in TC qualities, but it's what you put the TC on that truly matters.

For that reason, many people prefer the cheap $100 Kenko, for its wider compatibility. It even works on F5.6 lenses, such as the Canon 400 F5.6, while the Canon TC won't.

Hi Robert,

according to this quite extensive review:
http://www.traumflieger.de/desktop/telekonverter/konvertertest2_teil3.php

the Kenko 1,4x Pro 300 is the best of the available options.

The review is in german only but the examples and graphics should be more or less selfexplaining. Personally I own (and USE) the kenko 1,4 SHQ and so far I find the results acceptable.

You can find here a good side by side examples kenko 1,4 SHQ vs. Kenko Pro 2,0 vs. canon 2,0 in an older test:

I bought the pro version of the Tamron for my lens and it works great. It hunts for focus on the slower lenses like anything aabove 2.8 but the image quality is right up there. The pro version is a perfect match colorwise for the white Canon L series lenses too.

Thanks to you all for what you share so freely, It's my hope to be able to help others as well.

I guess it's the less expensive Tamron that does not.
