I've seen a lot of threads and tutorials about eye replacement, but I'm wondering if there's an easier way to fix the problem I frequently have: one or more subjects is not looking at the camera. You know, there are three different relatives (in different positions) acting like idiots trying to make one of the kids smile, and thx to them, they get the smile. But the kid is looking at THEM not the camera.

So I'm looking for an "easy" way to fix this with the least possible pain since I'm going to do this a LOT. And maybe I'm just not searching right, because I've found nothing on the web speaking to this exact problem. Blinking, yes; Wrong Direction, no.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about with the subject on the left:

And here's a different shot where the subject is looking at the camera:

If you want larger versions just change the "-S.jpg" to "-L.jpg". Lastly, I'm pretty much a PS newbie, so go easy on me.

TIA!

One simple way to fix this is to lasso the iris, copy it to a new layer, move it a couple of pixels to the left, and paint the white back in on a separate layer.

Peano,

Thx for the info. Seeing the way people who know what they're doing (like you) will give me some alternatives. I then get to experiment, so the more details the better.

Oh, and the animated GIF was a great touch!

Thx again,
Dylan

You're welcome! You can even have a little fun with this method ...

How about having a go at this one of mine, i've posted this before,
but no one could make it look natural!
It isn't going to look natural because the lighting isn't natural. It was shot from a little below, apparently with an on-camera flash. To appreciate what's unnatural about "lit from below," take a flashlight in the bathroom, close the door without the light on, and hold the flashlight under your chin directed upward. That will give you the extreme case of "lit from below." The picture you posted is less extreme, but that's the nature of the problem.

Peano. could you go into more detail on how tocopy it to a new layer, and move it a couple of pixels to the left. How does one do this? step by step if you don't mind. I would love to learn to do this too.

Many thanks,

Sure. Do one eye at a time.

1. Select the iris using either the lasso or the polygonal tool. No feather needed.
2. Hit ctrl-C, then ctrl-V to copy and paste to a new layer.

3. Hold ctrl and hit the left cursor key twice. That will move the iris 2 px to the left.

4. Create a blank layer below that new iris. Turn off the new iris layer. Select color from white of eye, and paint out the part of the original iris that would show behind the new iris.

5. Turn the new iris layer back on and see how it looks. If some of the original iris is still showing, go back to the blank layer and paint it out.

Am I suppose to save the picture first and then bring it back up to do the second eye? Because if I add the first layer of the first eye, it goes back to where I have to start over and if I don't and move on to the next eye, I get that message that I told you about in the previous post. What do I do?

Many thanks,

When I went to do the second eye by clicking control C I got a
message that said 'could not complete the copy command
Sounds like you might not have had the image layer active. After you finish with the first eye, you have to go back to the main image to copy the second eye.
