I will be heading to London for a business trip next month, will be there on Sunday, maybe I will have time late Monday.

Any recommendations on camera shops to visit that may have something B&H does not?

Is the E-400 out yet?

For what it's worth, here is my opinion as one who has recently been across the pond (I wish I could have spent a month over there). I must say that it was not an option to purchase any camera equipment while in London as I do not have loads of money to burn.

You're probably aware of the current exchange rate which is somewhere around $1.90 to a single pound. In addition to the weak US dollar, please be aware that all prices in london are inflated such that an E-500 2 lens kit that sells for $600US also sells for about 500 pounds- nearly double the price. I was blown away to find this out. You'd be better off buying yourself a bunch of nice new glass here in the US and taking it with you.

If you get tired of the usual sight-seeing, here are a couple of suggestions:

Visit Foyles book store on Charring Cross Road. Huge place, biggest in Europe I think. Lots of books about photography or whatever else you're interested in. And if you don't want to pay the high prices you can just note the ISBNs of the books you choose and then order from Amazon when you get home.

Lots of used book stores in the same neighborhood, by the way.

Suggestion 2: Go see a play. You can pick up a ticket at one of the many "half price" ticket sales places around Leicester Square.

Bon voyage.

Thank you everyone for the advice. It is not a sight-seeing trip, as I have been to London many times, and have only a few hours of free time.

I will likely hit my typical stops, Old Vintage, Milroy's, & Cadenheads for a old Islay cask-strength, and will shoot a digital photo of each establishment (trying to stay on topic), and say hello to my good friend Roger at Hilditch's.

Traveling light, so the E-1 stays home, taking the NV7 and the Contax TVS III.

Cheers!

if you want to have the experience of buying something in London:
  • buy something from B&H
  • take the same amount of money that the item cost and set it on fire
there now you know what it feels to buy camera goods in the UK...

(tongue in cheek)

I was in the UK a week ago and I can tell you the UK is seriously out to lunch on just about everything price wise....I could see if the rest of Europe was the same, but it's not...

Tottenham court road prices are much higher than the mail order companies. Yes, it is better to buy your stuff in US - and use your money to buy before the dollar collapses - trade balance has crossed the danger point ie 6 tr!!

I will be staying in the Southwark & Bankside neighborhood near the London Bridge Station, looking for good photo locations.

Where should I go? Globe Theatre? Hays Gallery? Southwark Cathedral? St Olave's? Design Museum? any place not found in a typical book?

Any good shops for cask strengths in the area? Milroys, Old Compton, and Cadenhead's are too far for the time I have.
