I bought a S3 IS from Japan, and naturally it came with a Japanese user manual. So I downloaded the English version from the Canon US site, but when I tried to get a printout; every page has COPY printed across it in very large letters, however when reading from acrobat reader all the pages are clean. Maybe some sort of a watermarking technique.

Is there a possibility of either obtaining a printed version of the English manual through post or a non tainted pdf from canon?. I really would like to get an already printed version from canon cos even if I get a proper pdf, printing 170 pages is a hassle.

I couldn't find an English support section in Canon Japanese site, and when I went to the US site they assume that everyone is from US which leads me to believe that they won't help much either.

BTW I am really not in the mood of getting print screens of every page or playing around with Photoshop etc.. ;-)

Try this one from a Japanese site. I was able to download it to my computer. I haven't tried to print.

And they may not help if you need it repaired. If I bought an Olympus in Japan I would have to send it there. They won't honor the warranty in the U.S.

they are marked COPY for obvious reasons

same happened with me, but i think it is readable.

Thanks for all your input. It is much easier to have a printed manual cos otherwise every time I need to look up something I have to go to a PC. Anyways I think I will get a printout from the watermarked pdf.

Just out of curiosity, I don't see any point in having the online pdf watermarked that way.. Besides; with bit of hard work that can be removed anyways. So why bother ?

Your profile indicates you're in the US so why can't you contact Canon tech support and have them send you a printed user manual. I've read where others have done so without any problems.

I am in Japan, I forgot to change the country in my profile after registering, sorry about that. Now it is corrected.

There is an excellent user manual in the Japanese site that is quite interactive. The printed US manual is very small to be really useful.

Where in Japan? There is a Canon showroom in Shinjuku (Tokyo). I think it's in the Mitsui building, just north of City Hall. It's one of those along that street, anyway.

They can probably get you an English manual. The shops in Akihabara have tax-free floors and they provide English manuals, so I know they're available.

Here's a link to the PDF version of the S3 manual in English, with
no watermarks. I found it on Canon's USA site. Just click the
appropriate link once your there.

That is the one I have already downloaded; it has the watermark, but only visible in print preview and actual print, not when viewing from acrobat reader. Anyways thanks for all the replies, I will print the one with the watermark even though it is annoying.
