Any one give any advice on a good memory card that does not cost more than the camera

looking for a 4gb under £80

am going to the staes california next week do any american readers know if compact flash cards are cheapr there or by how much?

any one recommend any sites uk or shops in california san fran, LA,

many thanks

4GB cards for that price are usually specials. I bought my Lexar 2GB 80X & 133X cards on the web, usually from Amazon sellers, although I got my 133X from Tri-State. Check pricegrabber.com for lowest advertised prices. Fry's usually has weekly sales and frequently has CF on these sales.

The Lexar 4GB 133x Professional card is pretty common. I got mine for $190 Canadian funds (with a $30 mail-in rebate).

Fry's is a brick and mortar electronics superstore, and Tri-State is a mail order camera dealer. Since you will be in California, you will have access to local dealers. Depending on how long you will be there, you might have time to have a card shipped.

Lots of memory card scams on ebay. Many are fakes. Buyer beware.

I knew that, but he will be on the left coast.

I meant as looking at a map, California is on the left and North Carolina is on the right. There is another meaning that I will not dwell on suince I wouldn't want to get into polotics. ;)

Is it best to buy one large memory card like 4 mg or two "smaller" 2 mg cards. I was thinking 2 cards may be a good idea so 1) I have a back up that is useable and 2) one card can be left for example at a photo developer. For me the need for redundancy seems like a bigger issue. Any thoughts?

I will second that. I didn't do my research and got a scam 4 GB Sandisk on e-bay. Haven't had any problems with it but my guess is that it is not as fast as the real deal. And now I doubt it every time I take a photo. Since the intro of the ExtremeIV the III have come down in price. The 4GB from Adorama in NY is $139 after the $40 rebate.

I won't buy cards on ebay any more!

In my experience. the cst for 2-2GB Lexar 133X is usually cheaper than 1-4GB 133X. I have never had a card fail, but it can happen, so all of your eggs in one basket isn't always a good idea.

That's interesting about the cost ... I also found 2x1gig was not much of a savings over just 1x2gig.

You may check ebay:

I don't recommand this card. I both it in august and the card arrived with no serial numer and original package, just a blue sticker on a card. Nothing to prove it is a 150X and a Samsung card. Belive it or not but my cumputer was not able to reboot with the card in the slot of my card reader (it took me 1-2 hours to find why my cumputer didnot reeboot).
So I returned it and got the Transcend 120X for 15$ more...
