Waiting for a Senior Dude, to come in. She's the sister of a client that is visiting, and wanted me to shoot a couple quick ones.

Another 550 w/SB shot

This one is great... most of yours are. Just wish I knew lighting like you...

Phillip:

You latest work is absolutely fantastic. Your stuff is better than many who write books and give seminars. Both your studio and environmental work are truly the gold standard.

As you continue to post, keep the details (lights/modifiers used, distance to subject, settings, etc.) coming.

Thanks.

me too....

Pfitz - stop doing this, ...but don't stop doing this!!

Thanks.

This was a real quick shot. I really liked her eyes, and wanted to isolate them, so I threw this fabric over her head. The PP work, may look a bit heavy, but I didn't have the makup on that I would have liked to gotten. Anyways, Lighting is a medium SB approx 1 1/2 feet away from her face. Her sister is holding a homemade reflector camera left, to add some light on the material.

"I found this old piece of cloth lying on the studio floor, so I wrapped it around her head and here is the shot I got" ;-)

Pfitz you amaze me! I love those eyes too.

Does the traffic just stop for you to shoot?

Small comment only, on the one in front of the store, under the left side of of her lower lip is a bright spot that is a little distracting. Other than than that, my favorite casual of the group.

Great shots as usual. Glad you continue to share.

in PoDunk USA is very, very, very slow after everyone has gone to pig out on lunch after church. Some cars were sitting behind me while shooting that shot, but it was walk out, and stop while I pop it, then we were gone.

Of course when someone comes in with a hooded coat you have to shoot it.

Medium SB camera left, homemade reflector camera right.

Hallo Philip

You always show us great stuff, and i see a clear pattern on your posts.

you get a bunch of pics, then you throw us the most simple(all of them are great), then you post a even better one, then the third one tops the last one, and its getting better and better, uff, the crowd its overheating, you bring one more!!

I am always looking forward to check the last ones ,you like to drive us that way, am sure you do it on porpose!

congrat.

your lighting is a reference for many of us , where to go for portraiture.

Another Simple lighting thang. Glad you enjoy the images.

Guys- the secret is simple... just a medium SB camera left, and a homemade reflector camera right for fill... spend a night at a Holiday Inn and it will all be clear!

Phillip- I don't think it's the fact that you create such beautiful images, I think the problem is that you make it seem so easy! :)

awesome. did you get a new camera or somethin'?

just kiddin'. love the work. nice job. something to aspire to.

I'll try to remember to get a setup shot the next time out. When your using one medium SB and Reflector, there's not much to show.

Again, 1 light and reflector

Phillip,

I'm a big fan of yours. Thank you for posting all the images that you do, and for describing your setups and post processing. Your images are inspirational to me, and your descriptions are very helpful.

I realize that you're happy with the way you post process images, and that you don't care that much what others who post here think. You're making yourself and your customers happy, which is as it should be. However, I'd like to say that this image is an absolutely superb post processing job, in my opinion. Flawless skin, yet enough detail remains so that it's not textureless; it doesn't look fake, it retains just the right amount of texture for my tastes.

Great image,

Rodney

You're my new hero. I need to find a crossroads, a four leaf clover, and a rabbitt's foot, then go to church everyday and pray that I can someday equal what would just be an average everyday shot for you. Maybe for a small fee you'd PP some of my shots? :)

i'd be interested to know how much PP you do

i know it's difficult to quantify, but would you spend 5minutes on a shot, 10minutes, or half hour (or more?) before showing your work?

i also realise time is maybe not the best indication, especially if you have a workflow nailed, but i don't want to ask for your workflow because (a) i find workflows to be a personal trait to individuals and (b) even if i did copy it, there's a lot of subjectiveness in PP and i'm 100% sure i wouldn't get the same end result, even if i started from the same original

beautiful shots, great-looking model, and i'm envious of the various props and backdrops you have at your disposal

i think stepping out into any road with shops on it in the uk would get you either straight run over, or so much abuse and blasting of horns that the model would question your sanity and run a mile!

How do you keep her face so well lit and her arms and petals not? PP with lasso on her face or something like that?

Neil.

I read something earlier in either this thread or another of mine, that someone knew I didn't really care what they thought of the image or more so, the post work. This is true to some degree. Of course I always would like to know if one likes or dislikes an image and why, but I'm not going to debate it in an never ending thread ;) LOL

One could debate it till the cows come home, and it wouldn't matter at the end of the day.

99% of the stuff I do, I do all the same. Every now and then, I may wander off that beaten path if I see something in a direction that I didn't think about with regard to the post work. Then I may work longer on it. I have a 20x24 print in the studio of a little girl that isn't my normal look. A mother saw it the other day, and mentioned, she sure would like to have something like that of her daughter since it was so different looking.

That was an image where I probably spend 1/2 working on. Not the norm for me.

Average time on any given image. 3 minutes tops. Sure I may dodge a bit more, or burn, but those are nothing more than tweaks.

Used a reflector on this one to open up the shadows on her eyes, and burned the bushes behind her. I took the dodge tool and brightened up a weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee bit darker tones in her eyes to make a smooth transition where the reflector stopped.
