Hello everyone again......as I have meantioned in an earlier tread I hope to get the D80 next month, and trying to figure out the best way to go base on my budget......But 1st I would just like to thank everyone who gave their grreat oppinions and advice in the last tread it was really valualble to me.

Right now I have narrow it down to either the nikon 17/80 lens or the sigma 18/125 D lens....I have heard some good things bout the sigma lenses including there contruction vs the new nikon lenses. Both lenses are about the same price 300.00 US dollars which falls into my budget at bout 1200.00 for the complete setup.

My photography is mostly party pictures, portaits and alot of landscapes just to give you and idea

I promise I wont bother you guys about my purchase after this, but rather show you the great stuff I'm getting from my new Nikon D80 next month ......Hopingly if I sell my dog and my gofl clubs should have enough money......hahahahaha!

Thanks again Jim

hi
out of those two i'd take the nikon 18-70 as it's really a good allround lens.

but as you mention party pictures, they are very often in low light so you might want to take a look at the sigma 18-50 2.8 which has alot of advantages in low light and portrait photography because you can create a more shallow DOF

Go for the Nikon 18-70 DX! The reviewer at photozone.de states that he couldn't get AF on the Sigma 18-125 to work properly (he used MF due to that all the time). Doesn't sound good, eh? :-)

If you are into parties and portraits, get a Nikkor 50/1.8 as well. It's really cheap. There are loads of used 18-70 DX's floating around, maybe you can get one of those (just make sure you get one that is in one piece :-) ), and buy the 50/1.8 with the savings (just for your info, so you don't worry too much: all my currently most used lenses as well as my D100 were bought used - 18-70 DX, 50/1.4, 105/2.8 Micro, Sigma 500/7.2, I'm happy with them and saved probably more than 60% of the price compared to buying new).
