I took this photo back in August and had always liked it but I wish the dark area's were just a tad bit lighter (showing a bit more detail). Well over the weekend I decided to print an 8x10 of it and low and behold I couldn't believe it, it had came out just like I had hoped. In fact I like it so well I'm gonna print a 13x19 of it. My monitor is a tad bit on the dark side so that's why I'm guessing it showed up so dark.

Anyway your opinions would be appreciated!

I would crop the lower portion of the picture, to get rid of all the darkness, since it adds nothing to the picture.

I'm pretty sure that the main subject is the lighthouse (I saw a man, two birds, and a seagull flying in the air). You may want to isolate that main subject to keep it real simple. In your picture, my eyes were wandering around almost nonstop.

Tim,

Actually I thought the same thing until I printed it out. There is some detail in all that darkness that you don't see until you print it out.

When I look at this photo I ask what was the subject? I see a sunset, a lighthouse, and some birds and a person. I’m just cropped the picture with my hand and found that a portrait format of just the right side of the photo is a very moving shot of the lighthouse. Try cropping it like that and I think you will be happy.

I have also experienced the same thing on the print out. There is detail that does not show up on my monitor. Try downloading Qimage. Really check This program out. I was amazed how prints could look so much better.

Craig your right!

Qimage Pro is the best printing and in a lot of ways the best editing program there is. You will discover lots and lots of features you didn't come upon yet but when you master the program your pictures will be even better.

Stephen,
I think Morris is absolutely right, keep it simple and not too busy.

Great picture!
