PSP XI and Raw

PSP XI doesn't read my Canon G2 raw files correctly. Some of the colors
are very different and the incandecent lights are purple.

I thought that maybe the G2 was an old camera and PSP XI didn't support its raw files, so I converted the Canon G2 files to Adobe .dng format, which PSP XI is supposed to read.

Got a message saying that PSP XI does not recognize this format.

Does anyone else have problems reading .dng format in PSP XI?

Is it supposed to read DNG? Can you point me to where it says that, please?

When I tried PSP X, it supported DNG so badly that I put it in my "not yet" list, see below. The following about PSP X came from a Corel forum: "DNG support is spotty at the moment. We don't claim full support for DNG as of yet".

Under "Help" do a search for "Raw" and it will list the files supported.
It lists .dng as read only, but my copy of PSP XI won't read .dng

I have had this issue too, it would "appear" that PSP will only read the DNG if it supports the format in RAW...which is pretty pointless IMO. Second point...I like PSP, but RAW support sucks...least it does for my KM5D, strange colours are the main issue, and corruption of colours/bleeding etc..best advice is to use another RAW convertor, and pp in PSP..thats what I do anyway

Some people can get benefit even from this level of support. For example, they may obtain smaller files, or put asset management metadata into the DNGs with appropriate tools.

I think Corel need to decide where they are taking PSP. They had a mixed strategy with PSP X, giving away RSE with it. Development of RSE has ceased, so will Corel take raw seriously within PSP in future?

Well I dont think anyone expect ACR style conversion and support for PSP. But it would be nice...as it is...PSP is a serious editor, its got power..and a more GUI interface, rather than the Kyboard shortcut PSCS2 style..and it cost a lot less...

BUt I for one am slightly let down with the direction its heading...X was better in some ways, XI is a bit of a hog.

Recently MS dropped RAW from DIS the new edition (10 year version)...though they only supported Nikon/Canon...

I have to say we need a new open source editor...gimp is not my cup of tea!

Perhaps we need an open source project to develop an alternative photograph processor based on metadata editing rather than pixel rendering.

There is a danger that while people and companies are trying to compete with pixel rendering editors like PS, etc, the new breed of processors based on metadata editing, such as NX, Aperture, Lightroom, LightZone, etc, will march ahead without sufficient competition.

I have to disagree with Berry, PS x1 (back to version 9) works great with the Fuji RAW format. But can't speak for the Canon. The Corel people are great (not fast though) send them an email. They have always helped to correct little problems I have had through the years of using the software.

It might work ok for fuji, but is sucks for KM...not great for nikon/canon...colour artifacts seems to be the main problem on some of them. And it has not been updated...

Not that psp is anything other than a great alternative to PS...but not for RAW...use something else...then pp in psp

Obviously others don't think so, but my results with Print Shop are great. PS7 works well, especially when doing special graphic specialty work, but for ease and quality of photo correction (and the price) print shop is outstanding with really no one else close. ENJOY
