Breaking blocks

What a painful looking experience! I would be more afraid of the fellow with the hammer missing than getting poked by the nails though. Interesting shots!

my best,

Jim
My brother was just promoted to 4th degree black belt. As part of
the promotion event he did a demonstration of cinder-block
breaking. The blocks were broken by a guy with a sledgehammer while
my brother was lying on a bed of nails. Unfortunately I thought the
guy was going to swing the hammer on two and pushed the shutter
release too soon to catch the real moment. This is as close as I
got.

I put together a little gallery to document the demo. Here is the

Hello Jim,

If you haven't already done so try the rest of the shots in the little gallery on pbase.

My brother first wanted to try three blocks but was informed that the hammer might need to be used twice to break all three. The guy with the hammer is a high level black belt so the danger of him missing was very low. My brother actually was cut by the broken pieces of the cinder block rather than the nails.

Wow! What a series Stan. Thanks for providing the gallery. I'd say that your brother has much to be proud of. For the photographs, you do as well.

Now, if I had to choose between lying on a bed of nails while someone sledgehammered cinder blocks on me versus driving through NYC one-handed with a camera in my other hand ...that'd be a real tough call.

My best regards,

Ed

Stan, Got a lot of work around here, send your brother over and will give himm somthing safer to do.

watch out and keep on bringing those personal events - those are the important blocks of our lives

Hello Ed,

Fortunately we both survived our "ordeals". Thanks for the compliment of the photos. My brother was very happy with the gallery.

Hello Ruvy,

Everyone has so much work. Taking photos is a great break from the workload.
I am glad that the event occurred giving me a reason to take even more pictures.

Hello Jacques,

My brother was really scared during the event. It took lots of courage to try this one. Those nails were sharp.
