S6500fd and flash.

I understand that in Auto mode the S6500 pushes UP to iso1600 with the flash. I also know that it will flash useing lower isos.

My questions are.
How often does it go as high as iso1600 (does it mostly use a lower iso)?

What is the quality like with flash photos at iso1600?

Does anyone of you lucky S6500/6000 owners have any Flash photos taken in Auto mode at iso1600 that you can share?

Any other flash phots taken in Auto mode greatly appeciated as well..

As I suspected there is a certain amount of noise there but its pretty good. Easily as good as my s5600 at iso800 with flash.

Can you tell me how often it uses iso1600. I noticed that these were taken at Mid zoom and Full zoom. I am wondering if the zoom range you use (and the resulting smaller aperture) has anything to do with the iso it chooses.

IE... is it more likely to choose a higher iso at mid-full zoom than it is at wide angle.
And what other iso values have you seen it use with the flash?

I would personally rather it top out at iso800.

In most of the pictures I have taken iso 1600 is rarely used. I have some pictures where the only thing on was the TV and the illuminator came on before the flash and the camera used iso 800 and those pics look pretty good. I have also taken pictures in the daylight with Iso 100-200 and the flash has come on and the pics still look good. I notice the flash firing more in Auto mode than any other mode. I am still learning the camera and how to get the best pics out of it. I hope this information is helpful. I really don't think the zoom has anything to do with it. It flashed with no zoom as well as it being zoomed out.

Thanks Rachel, thats good info. thae fact that it flashes sometimes during the day at iso100-200 indicates to me that the metering is detecting backlit situations well.

if you go to 'P' mode, you set the ISO to your own choice. For indoor shots, choosing ISO 100 / 200 will be fine and give good results with the flash.

The flash is powerful and it's strength is adjustable from the menu.

I would encourage people to use 'P' rather than auto

What about clueless people? I talk to people pretty frequently about digital cameras, and I dont think they want to think about enabling flash, iso, shutter, etc. Most people dont even want to use those modes like sport, night, landscape, etc.

Is there any particular area you think the auto doesn't do a good job on this camera? Or is that more a general advice statement as is the case with pretty much any camera?

I generally do thanks very much BUT I am not the only one who will use this camera

One of the good things this cam has over my s5600 is that AUTO mode is auto. ie only auto iso is available and other options are very limited.

The trouble with the S5600 is that everytime I use the camera I have to reset the iso to auto etc when I'm finished useing it in case my wife is next to pick it up. A cuple of times I haven't and the results have been mised photo ops. With the S6500 all I need to do is make sure its set to Auto.

So I'm just trying to assertain how good the AUTO mode is and how often it uses iso1600 with the flash. (A top of iso800 would be better IMHO).
