WAP??

Have fun out here, post some pics of the tragic kingdom:)

There are two lion cubs at the WAP at Lion Camp, they go out with mom and dad and the interactions are great. Definately have the 70-200 for that, although you will wish for more. Open enclosure on two siections, so you don't have wire issues. Give that some time; they play, they rest, they play, they rest...

New baby elephant too, but pics are harder at that enclosure. Check out the crane chicks just after entering on your right. The gorillas are also a good shoot - they tend to pose for you, and again no wires or glass. And watch for the "animal encounter" places and times if you want close up shots of different animals (although the keepers will be holding them, you can get super close up head shots without humans being in the picture).

If the ring-tailed lemurs are out on their island, and sunning themselves, you can sometimes get hilarious pictures of them kicking back. While you're there - look up occasionally. You never know what birds will be perched up in the trees sunning themselves.

I'd say use the 12-24 for the coastline shots. I'd probably just take those two lenses (although I'd add my 1.7 TC for the 70-200) if you're trying to travel light (relatively speaking).

I would suggest either the 28-70 or 12-24 for Disneyland. Both if you want to carry them but I don't think you'll need the 70-200, 35 or 50 at that location.

For the Wild Animal Park you will certainly want to use the 70-200 and possibly the other two zooms.

You're packing a lot into 2 days worth of shooting. You may be too tired to shoot the sunset. Where are you planning on doing the sunset shoot?
Here's a link to a few of my shots at the SDWAP from 2005.

Well, the shooting at Disney will be for fun and enjoyment...whatever I get..I get.

I'm also packing the 1.7X Nikon teleconverter. Wish I could bring my 300 f/2.8 VR for the WAP but not this trip. LOL Besides, I am not sure that I'd really want to check that through luggage and I'm limited as to carry on.

I figure with what I have I can shoot just about any scenario I will need out there. Should be fun.

Don't know where we'll be shooting yet, this is kind of going to be a fly by the seat of the pants kind of thing since I have friends out there taking me around.

But if you see a big ugly guy with a D200 walking around or are at the WAP on Sunday.. say hello... LOL

Woe... what a day at Disneyland yesterday.

It was officially "Gay Day" at Disneyland. Lots of gay people in red shirts that were apparantly proud to be gay. Interesting day to say the least.

Funny as it is, last time I went to Disneyland it was "Bats day" which is the gothic day with lots of people dressed all in black with white faces and odd clothing and makeup.

Yes, Disneyland is quite an interesting place and it seems that I have strange luck with the days I pick to go.

I need to start taking the camera!

Was that "Woe" or "Whoa"? :-)

For me that would be "Whoa" because I can remember when a guy couldn't get into Disneyland if his hair touched his ears (their measure for long hair). Hippies need not apply...

Now they are gay friendly. Times change.

I'm not gay - not that there is anything wrong with that - but I would think gay day at disney would have been a photographic bonanza with a 70-200 exp if there were the occasional queen in drag. Gay pride parades are a blast with the 70-200.

As for choice of lens, are you going with your kids? If so I would take the 28-70. If you are going without kids I would consider lugging the 70-200 for candid shots of other peoples kids. The 70-200 would give you distance since you will be a strange adult to them. I would also take the 12-24 to capture the disney ambiance. Dont forget there are fireworks everynight over the disney castle.
For the wild animal kingdom it is the 70-200 no doubt.

You'll have a blast at the WAP. It's one of my favorite places to shoot. Your 70-200 w/ 1.7x will do well. Be certain to check out the Lion Camp as they've got couple of young cubs running around, the earlier the better. If you've got the time check out the excitment at the airshow over the weekend as well.
