Just compared the two at Best Buy and they allowed me to take pictures from each and print them out, the Canon seemed to produce better color and the fx01 seemed to make the skin tone look slightly orange looking. For about $140.00 difference in price, I'm having a hard time pulling myself away from the fx01, but I think in the long run, I might be a little more satified with the canon.

Any thoughts/feedback appreciated.

SD800 new $400 camera. FX01 8 months old $250 camera. Some posters say the newest FX7/50 LX2 has better IQ than the FX01. Maybe you should compair the Canon with them.

If you're going to use the exact printer you used at the store, and you're not going to change color profiles, sounds like the Canon is the way to go. It's unlikely that your home printer will produce the same results you found in the store. I haven't found anyone in any of the forums who complained about the color that the FX01 produces.

Sounds like you're fairly new to this game. If that's true, then save yourself $170 and buy an FX01 online, or save yourself $140 and get the FX01 from Best Buy. You're asking for opinions, and it's my opinion that if the Canon is a better camera, it's not $170 better.

If you're a veteran photographer, spend time looking on this forum for articles comparing the two; there are plenty of late.

I think you mean FX07. The FX7 is an older model. I think most are saying the Panasonics have a higher noise. Interesting that the OP mentioned skin tone differences and not noise level differences.

Right, I meant 07. What are these camera companies doing calling different models same letters same last number. (and canon calling the SD700 the 800 in Europe and having another 800 in the US.)

I bought the FX01 three days ago. Everything (color, camera speed, screen, IS, 28mm lens) is very good, except that pictures are noisy at ISO200. However, you won't see the difference between ISO100 and ISO200 when viewing full screen (not full size) on a 17" computer screen. So it is OK if you mostly view the pictures on computer or not print anything larger than 6 x 9".

I don't know much about the SD800. But generally, comparing with older Canon model, I prefer the color of Panasonic, it is more natural. Surely the ISO of Canon is better. But I think you can not go wrong with the FX01 at US$ 260.
