Harvest Moon tonight. XTi

My gear isn't really set up for moon shots but considering this was taken with an "el-cheapo" Quantaray brand 500mm Mirror lens, this I guess 'aint so bad...

It was rather windy tonight and the atmosphere was a bit turbulent, but a full moon at perigee was too tempting to pass on.

Resized by 50% Shot with 350D and a 1200mm f/8 refractor

Nice processing job.

It's always interesting to see how different many people's moon photos look, even with similar gear, because of the processing.

Good one above, like the craters on the bottom and the fact it is mirror image because of New Zealand viewing the moon from a different angle?

Wow, that is an amazing shot of the moon, one of the best i have seen,

I assume your refractor is a telescope ?, if so, what make and model ?, and how do you attach a 350D to a telescope ?, did you use a motor drive at all ?

I'm really interested in getting my 350D to a telescope, but dont really know where to start, so any pointers would be helpful

Kind of. We see it upside-down compared to the northern hemisphere, but I flipped the image 180 degrees because I think it looks better and it also avoids all the "why is your moon upside-down" questions. lol...

Thanks, but looking at it again now, I think it wasn't one of my best postprocessing jobs.

Yes, it is a telescope like this...

..although I didn't have the tracking activated tonight as the atmosphere was a bit turbulent anyhow. (so the finest detail would never reveal itself anyway)

I just needed a T-ring in order to mount the camera to the scope.

Take your time and do plenty of reading and homework first. Sites like this have plenty of good information.. http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/astro/index-e.html

That big crater - that must have made a terrific noise when that landed. Must have felt the shockwave on the earth I would think. Would it have been heard? Considering sound doesn't travel through space but the shockwave must have. Can you get a picture of the flag to dispel the capricorn myth once and for all with that telescope?? hehe.

Mine taken two days ago with 350D, Mead ETX-90 RA reflector (1250mm, f/14).

I was trying it out this evening, just a 400D + cheap Kenko 1.5x extender + 70-200mm f/4 L, handheld @ f/4 1/1000, ISO 200.

Quite pleased with it considering it was handheld.
