Staying realistic, that is, with improvements that are well underway (as opposed to a mythical in-body Canon IS).

Personally, I'd like, in order of importance:
1 - More AF points
2 - Anti dust sensor cleaning
3 - Better water / dust protection
4 - Slightly better sensor
5 - Lower minimum ISO

Since I only use the center AF point, my reasons for upgrading is only if there is a significantly better sensor (equal high ISO performance with > = 12MP, or better high ISO performance with > = 10MP).

Realistically I expect 10MP with equal or slightly worse high ISO on the next xxD body.

What I'd like is essentially a 5D, but with the current 1DsMkII sensor. I feel if I'm going to go to the expense of buying a new body, I'd like a big step up in detail for landscape work.

Other features that would be nice to have:
1. More cross-type AF sensors
2. Dust removal
3. 5fps
4. Option to use DPP type demosaicing algorithms in camera

Oh yes, and a price of around $2000 - $2400.
So I'm not really looking out for another camera in the 10D/20D/30D line.

not that loud shutter slam...

i'd want just one thing on top of what the 30d already has: markedly better, more accurate and more consistent autofocus when in less than ideal circumstances.

The 20D is a pretty complette package aside from a few niggles. It would take a real step up in sensor performance or more affordable FF to tempt me.

Good luck and good shooting.

...developing three layered sensor technology such as the Foveon. I wonder why Canon has not put any effort in developing a sensor that records three colors at each pixel site instead of its present sensor technology which records one color relying in interpolation for the other two colors.

Photography is a never ending tug of war in compromises.

This would represent the single biggest addition in useful functionality. After that, bigger viewfinder, AF assist lamp, built-in wireless flash control, lower noise, and auto ISO.

I'd sure like to see a brighter info panel in the viewfinder - mine's generally way too dark to see - and why not put ISO there and make it continually visible? That's been noted before, but I haven't seen it here yet.

Well, since it's only a wishlist than my next camera should have all of the above mentioned attributes and must be a GIFT.
That would be nice.

Can't put boots in the oven and call them cookies.

Sad to say this is unlikely. Canon needs to protect sales of their IS lens. Thats here the big money is. Cost of IS lenses can add up to be many times the camera body.

That said they are not likely to improve iso performance as well. Given the already excellent sensor/noise characteristics of 20D/30D, improving it further will come to a point where IS will become less vital. That would mean less sales for IS lens systems as well.

Mainly because people are more sensitive to spatial resolution than color.

Pretty agree with most
1) Better noise management especially good 1600 and useable 3200 or more.
2) Anti-dust (pretty much a given since the 400D has it)
3) Brighter view finder with ISO
4) Some buttons for user definable presets. Minimum 2 sets but would like 4-5.

Probably will get more Mpixels anyways as that is still a competitive factor. Keep in mind box specs are big issues in Japan and 8Mp is OK but not great.

6) Long shot hope for body IS that works with Lens IS. May be a 2 stop body IS and a net 4-5 stop with both lens and body IS. I think the new crop of body IS will force Canon/Nikon to consider it. It really levels the playing field.

7) Simultaneously release EF-S 55-200/2.8 IS which is not white, lighter and smaller than 70-200/2.8 IS and slightly cheaper.

... a dedicated mirror lockup button.

Also a viewfinder blind (I quickly lost that silly little plastic cover). This presently costs thousands because it's offered only in the EOS 1 series. Seems that Canon has never heard of using a tripod and diffuser or reflector screens or they feel that anyone that serious about photography needs to spend thousands on a sturdy but heavy 1 series body. A shame because such a feature would only cost a minor amount in mass production.
