What I mean is, that I need version 4.2 or better to upgrade (for free) to 4.4 so I can have D200 support. Is that right? If I have 4.12, I first have to pay the $99 to get version 4.4?

I thought about going with Capture NX, but from what I've read, it doesn't support tethered operation to the D200 and I'd then also have to buy Capture Pro??

Thanks, Bob

Don't know where you got that idea Bob. Have you tried downloading and installing the upgrade? Should be no problem to upgrade for no charge.

You can upgrade for free but you need to apply each upgrade in order. From my library it looks as if the versions went from 4.0, 4.2.1,4.3.1, 4.3.2, 4.4.0, & then 4.4.2. This would be for windows btw.

You may also have an issue with your serial number as Nikon changed their licensing method. There is a tool on the Nikon website to deal with this too.

It is defiantly worth getting to 4.4.2. A number of fixes seem to be in this issue.

"This is a 30-day trial version of Nikon Capture version 4.4.0 for Windows (English). This download can also be used to update earlier versions of Nikon Capture (version 4.2 or later) to the latest version 4.4.0. The full software package can be purchased from the Nikon Mall. The suggested price for Nikon Capture is US$99."

I have version 4.12, so I am not eligible for this update. Right? I'm afraid to download and install it because I may end up with a trial version.

I cannot find the tool you wrote about... can you help...
I didn't think there was an automated tool to change the serial number from older alpha to newer numeric. You need to call Nikon Service to get a new serial number after you send them proof of purchase.

Actually, that is not required. Use your old serial number on your
old Nikon Capture program. Then download the upgrades according to
your current version and you should be good to use version 4.4.2.
Very true. But I intentionally did not specify that as it was already mentioned on one of the responses in this same thread and I was only responding to the reference to a tool for converting serial number. As a matter of fact, I have myself taken the route of incremental upgrade and still use the alpha code.

You have misunderstood the usage of this utility and what the original discussion was. This program works behind the scene to fix a glitch that NC has in authenticating the product key. While what we were discussing was about older alpha code and newer numeric code for NC.
