Show me Art not Photos!

At least have the courage to show what you consider art before you blast someone else. I did not start this post to pick fights with what one person considered art as opposed to another. It is a personal issue. Back up your post with something besides empty words other wise don't bother to reply at all.

Paul
Oh, oh You call this ART??, I have other name.

Ryszard

It is universal opinion as to 'what is art'. This is certainly shown in this thread. I suggest that each of you acquire a copy of FOCUS the fine art photography magazine. Read what is going on in the photo art world, notice what collectors are buying and what fine art photographers offer. You may be amazed, as I was, at the diversity of the photos designated as 'ART'. Read, form you own opinion and print your own art. Maybe you will be lucky and equal Edward Steichen's "The Pond-Moonlight" that sold recently for $2.9 million. Good luck

Mr Ryszard ,

If you do not include Ms Davis' Polaroid wet transfers as art, that is fine, I respect your opinion as an individual....even having never met you personally.

Having invested the best four years of my Life (prior to marriage) in Ann Arbor, studying at The University of Michigan, her book "Ann Arbor" captures the feeling and essence of that wonderful town. It reminded me of how blessed I was to have discovered the place in my youth, and to have earned admission in the late 1970s.

OK... No problem but the intent of my post was to get people to
post some sites they thought were more art than photography
although the critque is welcome these are not my web sites just a
couple that I think the photographers have taken their skills to
another level be it using photoshop etc...

In defense of Twisted Tree some would argue that the use of
Photoshop is just another medium to bring out ones "Art". You
could argue for the use of filters on traditional film cameras as
not being true to the art as well!

Links anyone?
Then again, art is subjective. As the old saying goes, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Just because you don't think something is art, does not mean it's not art.

That's my two cents worth.

...it does for me, but, then again, I'm a math guy who appreciates geometry and symmetry. I like the contrast and the parallel shadows, very nice timing.

Some of the images in the examples have artistic qualities, but I would not consider them ART. To me, art has > nothing to do with pretty pictures, and has everything to do with the ideas behind the images.
very very true...Most of us are blinded by techniques and visual effects. It is the ideas that keep good art standing.

I don't view the material at the links you posted as art. Some
photography that I do think touches upon being art (for a variety
of reasons) is...

This isn't art or even good photography. Just some person trying to push their political opinions down your throat.
Nice photos but not art.
This is close to art. Portraits that really make an emotional statement
These are art to me. Very interesting.
Many of these are art to me.
While commercial your stuff borders on "art" to me. Very nice.

yes... art has different meanings to different photographers....

to me its perceiving the world around us as naturally as possible, with some manipulation or modification, when its a necessity...

The top photo with the incredible sky is gorgeous.
It's got mood, feel, lighting, color.

Very excellent opportunity meets technique success.

Some excellent work, and a loving eye for your subjects. I like the way you don't take advantage of your subjects. I think you could go a step further with it--and I only say this because I think you DO have it in you (where most here do not).

It isn't her political opinions that bother me, it is the way she took advantage of her subjects. I don't think it's right to take candy from a baby. And I don't think the subjects forget as quickly as she seems to think. Her trying to put her political views across does not count against her work as art. I think it is art, just not very special.
