Search is still down so I have to ask again. Spent an hour today at the shop trying to fit a Lowepro bag to the R1 without great luck. The AW 100 slingshot came close and I liked the form factor but I couldn't get a good fit.

Looking at the crumpler bags they look a bit better for dragging the cam around day to day, the 2 million dollar bag seems to be close on the website, not crumpler dealers here to try it out.

Only looking to carry the cam, two batteries, maybe some room for a flash.

I have the 4 million dollar bag that works wonderfully!

I also have the 7 million dollar back when I carry both my R1 and my Pentax ist with all the lenses...

I love Crumpler because it doesn't "look" like a camera bag....

As luck had it, I was out looking for an extreme III card at lunch and found a 4 million bag at the local computer shop of all places mixed in with laptop bags. Looks to be a good fit!

Picked up a Crumpler 4million bag at Circuit City. Had it marked the same price as the smaller one and did honor the price when I checked out. Can't really feel that a smaller bag would work. Didn't seem to be a problem lugging it around all day.

I was thinking of buying one of these bags, but as I don't have a local reseller, I was going to purchase it online.

What can you tell me about its quality? Is it as great as it seems on photos?

Wouldn't the R1 fit in a "3 million dollar" bag? (or a dSLR with an attached lens for that matter)

Thanks for your answers

I just picked up the LowePro TLZ1 and that seems to fit fine. It's a little big, but so's the R1. But I like that the TLZ1 has a more vertical profile, better if you're going for a hike and have a pack on your back and the camera off your belt.

Plus, with a carabiner, the TLZ1 holds my ultrapod (mini tripod).

No fancy padded strap but well crafted in all the stitching and other parts. I'm impressed, it was much lower priced compared to the Lowepro bags at the local shop.

Yes I think it would, I wanted extra room for a flash and to get my hand in around the grip.

I tried the TLZ1 but it was too narrow at the end to fit the R1 + lens cap. Otherwise it'd be perfect.

Crumpler bags look nice, but they don't seem as well-made as LowePros. The places where the strap joins the bag seem like rain can go into them, no?

I have used a Lowepro Slingshot AW100 for the past year. First with a Fuji 9500 and now with my Sony R1. It went with me to Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia where it was dropped, crushed, kicked and generally manhandled. Bag contents were unharmed. Also it is very comfortable and swings around the shoulder quick sharp should you need your camera in a hurry.
Crumpler bags are great, but I would not swap it for my slingshot.
Hope you find my mad rambling helpful
Best wishes

I'm confused about mediokre's post. The TLZ1 mini didn't fit my R1. TLZ1 did. Those are two different models, and my R1 with lens hood is sitting comfortably in my new TLZ1. You have a different experience?

Sharpman, do you have a pic of how you get the R1 in there nice? I played with the dividers but couldn't get a satisfactory fit. The one pic on here I had seen showed the front part unzipped it seemed to get the camera which I wasn't too keen on. Did appreciate the extra storage in the end of the AW100 but for twice the price locally I wasn't sure I needed it.

I've tried fitting my large flashes in the crumpler with the R1 and its no dice, no clue how they get the nikon and both lenses in the pic on their website.

Sorry, I confused the TLZ1 mini (which, as you said, doesn't even fit the R1 sans hood) and the TLZ1.

I will post a picture for you later today.

I was able to get my 360px flash in with the R1, just have to be careful tucking it in. Works great.
